cymaz
Lovely work old chap. So..what was the reason for all the inspection holes? ( if that's not a dumb question ). Hinge maintenance etc?
PeterF
Stunning work, you continue to set the benchmark. I have been writing the list out for scale detailing on my 1/4 scale moth as the airframe nears completion. I now know I need 108 inspection patches. Manish Chandrayan
Good to see you back on the build Jez and glad to be of any help. Peter, not exactly 108 unless you are modelling the same full scale as Jez. The pages from the manual are in my album ad should give you a starting point. Yup - From where they are located it seems they allow you to inspect/maintain hinges, compression struts etc.
Jez Harris 1
Question for Manish.... Do your manuals include any standard locations for inspection patches under the fus? - The full size I'm copying clearly has 4 towards the tail. thanks Jez Edited By Jez Harris 1 on 04/04/2016 19:24:
fly-navy
Welcome back matey, standard as per usual and loving every minute of it
Gordon Tarling
Jez - looks like it's going to be a wonderful model! I don't suppose anyone might know where there's one of these kits for sale? Even a part built one would be considered. Gordon
Pup Cam
It's looking great Jez and such speedy progress compared with others! I think it would look really nice on a little airfield I know in deepest Bedfordshire, is it nearly done yet? Alan
Manish Chandrayan
Jez Will check if there is any mention of the inspection rings and patches under the fuse. But from what I recall I did not notice any. But since your subject has them, I am sure you will replicate those

GARY ALLEN
Jez, I just discovered your excellent build thread. Your craftsmanship is truly outstanding. The Classic Scale Kit provides a real replica of the full scale Tiger Moth. Do you know on which 3-view drawings the kit is based? The reason I ask is that I am unaware of any really accurate 3-view drawings of the Tiger Moth. I have used modified Cox 3-views my self in scale competition (modified by me, mainly in the shape of the cowl and in the LE slat housings.) I would attach my 3-views if I could work out how to do so in this post. Many years ago I built a 30% Tiger Moth based on my 3-views. Although I did well in competition, the level of detail is no where near that of your model. I am currently designing a 1/3 scale version, with a lot more fidelity to scale, including fully functioning landing gear. Your thread is providing me with a lot of valuable information as well as inspiration. Fabulous effort! I have attempted to embed a video of my Tiger Moth. Cheers, Gary Allen
GARY ALLEN
I did finally work out how to post drawings on this site. Actually, pretty easy! Here is my modification of the Cox drawing:

Gordon Mclean 1
Hi Jez - Glad your hand is on the mend and that you are back on the job. I wanted to ask for your source on the inspection rings and solartex panels....I would like to get a set for my build. Keep up the good work..I really appreciate your photos. Wishing you a Merry Christmas. Gordon
Gordon Tarling
Gordon - you do realise that it's 8 months since Jez last posted here? The rings and cut panels are available from Mick Reeves models in the UK. Gordon
Manish Chandrayan
Gordon while Mick does supply the inspection patches I suggest making the rings on your own. Some suitable card stock or even styrene of you wish to and a circle cutter like the Olfa ones will serve well. Get the patches first and then size your rings to suit. I think my album has pictures of the ones I made for my 1/4 scale Tiggy
Gordon Mclean 1
Gordon ..It had been awhile since I posted, but I hadn't looked at the date of Jez' last post..Hopefully he will be posting soon. Manish...thanks for the heads up on the inspection patches...I will get in touch with Mick...and will also look at your album...How is your Falcon Tiger coming ...I reached out to see if I could get one, but it looks like they are out of production.... Gordon Tarling
Too many Gordons here. Manish is right - make your own rings is the best way to go. Do you have a Classic Scale kit? I'm only asking, as the one that I bought has several parts missing and some photos/dimensions would come in mighty handy!
barry knight
Wow. This is an epic build. Love the fine detailing. You have built this really well , a credit to the marque. I will be following with interest. Thanks for sharing.
Jez Harris 1
HI all.I know it's been a while but life has got in the way lately.I will be back on this over Christmas. .I promise!!Gordon..what bits do you need info on?The rings etc were done by a good mate with a laser cutter.Jez
ceejay
Heyuuup jezzer could you do this mate a favour, can you tell me how the cowl (top) is attached to the framework eg longerons etc on your drgs, I need to remove the one on this original, its a little loose and I need to replace/fix whatever is loosening, and I cant just see where the fixings, are so a good idea of where to look would help and avoid the hammer and chisel I have on me bench!!! cheers chris
Gordon Tarling
Jez - Good to see that you're back on the case. Many U/C parts are missing, but I'm mostly managing with the help of your photos in this thread and a bit of guesswork. All the parts for the spring struts were absent and any dimensions for the ends/forks would be very useful. I'm also struggling to find suitable springs - I have some which might 'do', but won't know for sure until the model is almost complete, though they won't be the 2-stage type of the originals. Chris - it would seem there are several variations of the cowling, so you really need to look inside to see what's holding yours on - have you tried using a dental mirror and a torch? Jez Harris 1
Hi Chris. It's left to the builder to decide. It could be bolted straight onto the framework or even hinged to the same hinge the side cheeks are attached to..The lowest part of the cowl should hinge downwards which might help access??Jez
