\Can I suggestthe |Eflite Apprentice as a first model. WE had a new member, never done any flying apart from two buddy box flights years ago.

He brought this model along, after it was checked out he took off, flew round for five mnutes and did a perfect landing.

All the old hands were stunned!!

Another returning member who only flies electric gliders saw it and bought one. he loves it.

You need insurance before you fly. BMFA membership provides insurance. Membership year starts 1st January. Same for clubs.

That's a 35Mhz radio isn't it? If so be certain you know the frequency control system at whatever club you join. Find this out BEFORE you switch on. There are still a few people flying on 35 even though 2.4Ghz is now so popular......if you switch on a 35 Mhz when someone else is flying on the same frequency he will crash and hold you responsible! And vice versa someone else can 'shoot you down' if they switch on your frequency. 35mhz frequency control has become very lax at many clubs recently. Before you join a club make sure they allow 35Mhz as just a few clubs only allow 2.4Ghz.

Hi there John, welcome..

I'm sure you will find the forum a smashing source of info, inspiration and humour!

I bagged a DB barnstormer a few weeks back for £15.. it was a deceased sale from a member at the Hayes and District club, the chappie lived in Windsor with the old dialing code from the details inside.. she will be flying the Hayes and district badges up here in the North in the spring..

All the best..

Hi Kc

Thanks for the Info.

The club I am joining only flies 35Mhz and insurance BMFA is inc in the annual club fees.

They run a strict frequency policy and I have 7 to choose from so hopefully I will be OK on that front.

They really only fly 35MHz? I have heard of clubs who have mandated it the other way round to avoid shootdowns, but banning 2.4 is incredible - you can barely purchase new 35Mhz RXs and crystals any more, let alone a TX. I can't see why any club would make that move, it seems counterintuitive from a safety perspective and will be a major disincentive for new members wishing to join.

Hi Matty

I have actually joined a different club.

I still intend to fly on 35 mhz as that is the equipment I have bought to start with.

I did not feel it appropriate to spend hundreds of pounds on all new gear, on a hobby I might not get on with, until I have tried it.

Happy new year to all

John H
