Dom (Essential RC)
This huge radio controlled scale model is powered by a 300N gas micro turbine engine (BF300). Built and flown by Paul Metcalf with assistance from son Luke Metcalf who is also an accomplished large scale RC pilot. Wingspan: 166cm/182cm with Tanks Length: 417cm (270cm section for transport) Weight: 20kg+
Jack Banner
That does not look easy to fly at all. Great looking plane and fantastic landing.
Geoff S
Stunning model beautifully flown. Even though it was obviously flying very fast the manouvres were all unhurried which is something I like to see. I wonder if it's true scale. Someone used to bring a lovely scratch built EDF Starfighter to the RR(Hucknall) scale weekends (Reg Smith IIRC) and he told me the wings were actually 20% over size but they still looked very small compared to the size of the model. Jack Banner
Id be interested to know if there are any gyro's installed in the model. Given the fairly notorious handling it would be a good candidate for some assistance.
Dom (Essential RC)
I'm 99% sure that it would have a Powerbox iGyro installed.
bert baker
Is that the same type Alli Mac had a few years back.
Dom (Essential RC)
This is a 1:4 scale Airworld kit. I never did see Ali fly an F104 although I do know he flies one in the US that was made by Trond.
cymaz
I bet he held his breath until all wheels were on the ground. He committed to that landing...wow. Excellent job. Were right hand circuits the order of the day?

I recently watched a video regarding the English Electric Lightning that Ali was flying and he stated it did have a powerbox iGyro installed. The video stated that the Lightning was twitchy on roll but I am not sure if the iGyro was just on Ailerons or on all surfaces.

Dom (Essential RC)
Generally when flying at events like that with up to 2 other high value jets in the air at the same time it's common sense to do that. Each pilot has a caller who is spotting where the other models are in the air and letting the pilot know so he can stay relatively clear. Flying rough circuits makes it easier for the models to avoid each other. Only ever seen one mid-air at a jet event and that was when one guy wasn't flying the circuit.
