Peter Miller
I was watching Antiques Road Show and they had a feature on Mike Oldfield's. guitar. I have to say that I am not a fan of his but they had a picture of him on the table I see that he was into R/C models as there were two hanging behind him in the picturre

KiwiKid
I have been a great fan of MIke's since I was a wee nipper. I first hooked into him from The Exorcist movie Yip he was a keen modeler and also is a qualified aircraft .... and helicopter pilot too. One of my favourite songs of all time is Moonlight Shadow with Maggie - very relaxing.

Monz
On one of his albums, might be Tubular Bells, one of the instruments listed was 'aeromodeller's toolbox'.

Trevor Crook
Quite a repetoire to play all by yourself before the age of 20! The Telecaster listed was the one that appeared on AR last night, and prior to Mike it was owned by Marc Bolam.
Peter Miller
At least one of the models looked like a pattern ship.
Mike Etheridge 1
i seem to remember Mike Oldfield was mentioned on this website before and on the strength of it I dug out my 'boxed set' of his records presumably I bought in the 1970's ? I have just dug out the four records and discovered a large booklet with photographs of his several guitars and also confirmation that Hergest Ridge wherever that is. was the place where he flew his Slope Soarer Gliders. TJ Alexander
I had assumed that the glider on the cover was full size. This is fascinating. Does anyone fly on Hergest Ridge these days? Looks like it could be a good slope!
Trevor Crook
Pretty sure Mike doesn't fly there any more - he lives in The Bahamas these days!

Alan Pennington
I did read some where that Mike Oldfield had a house near Hergest Ridge
Russell Hawkes 1
As an impressionable teenager, 40 odd years ago, Mike Oldfield helped to inspire my interest in R/C glider flying. If my favourite 'pop star' of the time flew model planes then it must be a 'cool' thing to do. It seems rather ironic in hindsight... I heard recently (in a TV documentary perhaps) that Mike's recording studio was near Hergest Ridge and, weather permitting, he'd spend his days flying off the slope to escape the tedium of making the splendid L.P. of the same name. Trevor Crook
All this chat inspired me to put TB in the cd player for the first time in ages. Very nice chill-out music.

Stunning, you need the right speakers and amps to get the most out of the disc...... Edited By cymaz on 07/01/2018 10:37:
Tomtom39
I listened to the one I bought (second hand ) in 77 and the 2 from early 90's on my refurbished Linn LP12. There is something magical about vinyl (not to mention smell of curing dope!)
