Don Fry
I am surprised today. I thought Scotland would win. But, consistency is the last thing you get in a full skill set. The Wales replacements for the injured stepped up. Well done.
ron evans
Plenty of effort in the Irish game, but a bit dull until France scored a great try. Super drop goal to nick the game for Ireland.
john stones 1 - Moderator
I really enjoyed the game, both defended well so credit to em, 40+ phases with a wet ball in 80th minute and no fumbles is incredible, kick to finish it off as well. Dai Fledermaus
Given the French player who limped off with a ' head injury' the result was karma.
Don Fry
Great game. I was going to say, you have one chance, they will break, penalty or try. Keep going, they will break. A drop is the easy way out. Win or lose. But, slumped here, drinking Armagnac, and Bordeaux, I was not trying to do that for 80 minutes
Don Fry
Oh well, all the England hype is looking a bit flat. Bit of hair dryer getting applied methinks
Don Fry
Job done. Bit nervous about next week.
ron evans
Textbook tries and a powerful finish, solid win for England. Italy did their best to keep em honest but ran out of steam. I fear Twickenham will be a vale of tears for the boyos next week.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Italy look like they've improved, we''ll see as tournament goes on. England defence looked slow, potent going forward though. Next week will be a cracker.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Week 2 then, you nervous Ireland v Italy England v Wales Scotland v France Hope Italy perform o.k regardless of the score, I don't enjoy seeing them battered, Scots will be better, could be a cracking game, Eng v Welsh ? expecting it to be a real battle, hopefully no injuries. Hope you all enjoy it.
Don Fry
John I agree. This is practice for the World Cup, and I wish them all well. But; Big ask in Dublin Big ask in Twickenham Murryfield, that is a good side. I think their coaches will remind them, Wales excepted. And will put France to the sword. Or go back to being plucky losers. But I still reckon, Scotland. Mind, it's all very well wishing the enemy well. But we go there, next. Better they are crushed, demoralised, without hope of resurrection. But I reckon, and so far I talk out of my backside, Scotland will prevail. Dai Fledermaus
Wales will turn up at Rugby HQ today as underdogs, with nothing to loose. If we win, it will be like winning the Grand Slam. Forget the rest of the games in the Six Nations championship. If we loose, well it was only to be expected. I just hope the trash talk from Eddie Jones will prove sufficient motivation. Don Fry
Wow. Great half. Now although genetically Welsh for at least three generations, I am English. But I have to say, Wales was robbed. That, surely was a try, what am I missing,
ron evans
Tense game, but Wales were out muscled for much of the time. We failed to take our many chances, with England tactical kicking pinning us back time after time. We kicked too many high balls to Brown, and he was like a magnet. At least the scrum was pretty secure.
Don Fry
Ron, we were a bit lucky there. At Twickenham. Can we cease being nice. We are supposed to be at war.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Yep, it looked a try to me, he missed conversion though, fantastic game by both teams, torture watching it. Irish look very good, pleased Italy kept going, a shame they didn't get the bonus point though.
ron evans
Can't help being nice Don, it's in my nature. It is a war though, the playing field,... the only sane place for nationalism.

Martin Harris - Moderator
I'm no expert - haven't touched a rugby ball since school - but I thought the ball had to be under control for the touch down to count. The picture above gives a very different impression than the video replay I've seen, which looked like a glancing blow with the Welsh player's thumb, followed by a positive grounding by the defender. Has the rule been changed or do I see it wrong? Edited By Martin Harris on 10/02/2018 21:04:
john stones 1 - Moderator
Just downward pressure needed I think ? Some cracking tries in Womens game.
Don Fry
But I think that Welsh thumb moved that ball, towards the ground, and was in contact when it touched the ground, or technically the grass. And that is control and contact. The fact that he had little control, and it squirted sideways after grounding is irrelevant.
J D 8
We wus robbed of that try for sure, but England played a better game.
