McG 6969
Apologies for the probably very daft question, Dwain... ... but why didn't you 'stain' the top of the ailerons as well??? ... Cheers Chris Edited March 28, 2021 by McG 6969 lousy grammar...

Dwain Dibley.
Well, now that the summer has gone, I got back into the workshop... ? I have stained the fuselage and am waiting for it to dry. While that was happening I made my vintage wheels (poetic licence involved) Have you tried to buy palmercord wheels lately ?? Mega bucks, if you can get them. So I made these, out of a cheap pair of Dubro Wheels, cos they were thin enough, some balsa, some PVA, some string and a washer. D.D. The cowl mounts. Ply and Balsa. Must remember put the other screws in. !! The Stain, Diluted Warbird colours. Wheels. Should be ok when painted.
Dwain Dibley.
As we speak Gents, the second wheel is complete, they will both be doped before a coat of Humbrol cream. I am now going back in, to put on the panel lines before covering the fuselage, in Good "Ol' Lam film", for that just been Glassed look. Dwain Dibley.
Fuselage covered, I used covering to hinge the Hatch, worked well. Just final assembly now and a few little details to add, like a cockpit. D.D. Hatch. Tail.

GrumpyGnome
Very neat all over! Re wheels, I am always amazed at the price of accessories/spare parts which makes me wonder at the low cost of some of the electric foamies. I know these are designed down to a price, but it still surprises me. GG
Dwain Dibley.
Thanks G.G. Some of the wheels I looked at were over £100. I know mine are cartoon style but I still have £93 in my pocket . ? D.D.

But taking a cheaper option and making it work will always be my preferred path ? The wheels for my Hawker Fury for example, ply disks stacked up, small 6mm I.D bearings, and some litho plate dishes. The tyres are neoprene chord. Cheap as chips. Maybe a bit less than £93 in my pocket, but at least 90! Cheers Danny
Dwain Dibley.
I had thought about stacking balsa to make a cone, but..... the main axle wasn't long enough, so had to make them flat. I could have added the cone after fixing the wheel on, but I had almost lost the will to live by then . LOL ? However, I agree, making your own stuff does bring a lot of satisfaction. Those discs/covers are beautiful Danny. D.D.
Dwain Dibley.
Showing the very short stub left for fixing the wheel collet, I will try and disguise said collet if I can. I will replace the screw with a grub screw in the collet at least. D.D.
Danny Fenton
On my fury wheels the cover seals the collets. You could try a deeper cone? Admitedly you have to remove the cone to access the collet, but hopefully you never need to. My alloy covers are held on with silicone sealant so can be removed without too much damage
Danny Fenton
This little Se5a has the same problem, short stubs. The paper (in this case) cones would need to be removed to access the wheel retainer. Cheers Danny

Dwain Dibley.
I got things connected up and all the bits glued on. I got the ESC in place, the Rx in, and the elevator and rudder servos in. D.D. Tail sorted. ESC. Rx
Dwain Dibley.
I fitted the undercarriage to the wing and got the cowl back on, and the pilot in. Then down the garden for some pictures. D.D. The home made wheels, look OK I think. Bit of an interior.
