Jim Hughes 2
Hi all, I’m currently restoring and old glider from the early eighties - a Veron Vortex. I’m hoping to recreate the original colour scheme predominantly Orange with White stripes. I’ve purchased the iron on Orange film, however I’m reluctant to replicate the white stripes with iron on film - it would be a bit of a waste as the stripes really are not that big. I’m looking for some ideas for a white gloss, thin self adhesive material (not too thick) it doesn’t need to be fuel proof. What have others found successful? Must be able to cut to size etc and easy to apply. I’ve used Solartrim in the past, however that appears to be a bit thin on the ground - especially white. Nigel Heather
Have you looked at car shops like Halfords - not sure if it is still a thing, but back in the day they used to sell all sorts of self adhesive trim lines and go faster stripes. Alternatively go a DIY or craft place and buy some sticky back plastic (like Fablon) - it’s usually on a roll so you’d have to cut the strips yourself but the advantage is that you can choose whatever shape and width you want. Something like this maybe https://www.amazon.co.uk/4R-Quattroerre-10452-Stripes-Adhesive/dp/B08BHZH3MZ/ref=sr_1_19?crid=2FGU97LWP6HNY&keywords=Adhesive+car+trim&qid=1690266223&sprefix=adhesive+car+trim%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-19 Remember to put it down using soapy water so that you can position it. leccyflyer
There's lots of self adhesive white gloss and matt vinyl available on eBay, plus you can still get the Model Technics trim line tapes in white - so it depends on the style of marking that you are requiring. For thin lines the Model Technics is easy to apply and looks good. https://www.rcworld.co.uk/acatalog/Trim-Line-White-T-TL02.html#SID=47
Paul De Tourtoulon
I get mine from the professional sign company's, they give me their cut-off in all sorts of colours, and you can easily make your strips out of with a cutter and straight edge. Ron Gray
Isn’t it a bit thick Paul?
leccyflyer
If you didn't want gloss and the line width was correct, an off the wall suggestion would be typist's correction tape.
Jim Hughes 2
23 minutes ago, Ron Gray said: Isn’t it a bit thick Paul? I understand what you are saying Ron, however there can be a bit of a trade off with thinner material (wrinkles) etc. Funnily I have some of that ‘white sign’ material that Paul mentions - I was looking at it the other day. I’ll probably do the thinner stripes with the Trim Line product. Thanks for all the advice.
Andy Stephenson
This was recommended to me, the prices are really good... https://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/gloss-sign-vinyl
john davidson 1
I also source adhesive vinyl from my local sign shop but the lady laughs if asked for offcuts so I stopped asking. If depron wing is covered with vinyl it makes it almost crashproof, well almost.
