The Multiplex Easystar

Old photographs from the past.  Apologies for the poor quality.  This was my Multiplex Easystar from over 20 years ago.  It seen a lot of flight time during that period.  It was a very basic model with just a simple brushed motor and a heavy nicad battery.  Flight times were short but it flew very well and it gave me a lot of fun.

I still have an Easystar used mainly as a test-bed, presently it has a 1970s 27mhz Digi Ace radio converted to 35mhz.  Has a 2300kv 380 inrunner, vertical to almost OOS then glide - half an hour on a good day!

Once trimmed makes a fair single-channel rudder-only hack for a button transmitter.

Popular for FPV which I tried but made me dizzy!  There have been a few of very long-running Easystar threads on RCG - the model had massive worldwide support which was well deserved. Copies by HK and many others have been equally successful.  A classic, much maligned by the 'experts' but a classic nonetheless  :)

Absolutely a classic, that's for sure.

I bought one as an FPV platform, which it was good for (unlike the FPV gear which was an early 'all in one box' outfit - which proved to be functionally useless a.k.a. crepe)

I'm not convinced of its merits as a trainer though.  I had to extend the rudder to improve the response and every throttle movement produced a change of trim, which is OK for an experienced pilot, but useless for raw beginners (IMV).  The Bixler was a rip-off and I can only assume Multiplex couldn't be backsided to tackle Hobbyking over it.
