  1. In line with Leccys post above our club has derived insurance for many years from our local sports council. Thus every one is covered, but only at our site. However since many members have already BMFA insurance we propose to cut out double insurance and make it a condition to have BMFA or Equivalent only .
  2. Last week plans were announced for a huge solar farm in England two thirds of which were prime agricultural land and the rest woodland and rough grazing. I have a smaller but still quite big installation four miles away, I suppose it could be used for sheep but when we import half of our food it seems such a waste
  3. Martin Harris has hit the nail on the head, overpopulation is the real menace
  4. It seems to have missed every ones attention that some buses in Aberdeen are powered by hydrogen , wonder if there are others
  5. These mowers usually have a governor, would this be faulty ?
  6. We have two mowers , a small rotary petrol self propelled used as a standby and which takes about an hour to cut the strip and could go in a hatchback ,kept in the unlocked shed. Our main mower is a secondhand ride on , we are able to keep it under a tarp on site as security is not an issue . Our previous strip was hard by the road and too accessible, ride on mower stolen , electric fence stolen, other items burnt, shed broken into repeatedly and finally set alight. Farmer knew who the scallies were and told the police but no avail. The were finally done for other offences, young lads from a village two miles away so I feel for you. We are all trusted to be sensible when using it,three or four usually can use it
  7. And align it very carefully parallel with the fuselage datum
  8. Hot glue does not penetrate balsa so can be removed by snipe nosed pliers, with a twisting action usually The first use of hot glue I saw was years ago in wood lathe work, attaching work pieces to the faceplate, the piece could then be detached when wanted, (no screwholes) REALLY hot sticks better to the plastic shroud
  9. Amazon got a caning this morning on radio 4, keeping third party sellers money for far too long leaving them in financial difficulties.
  10. Age ten built a rubber power Spitfire, painted it with Humbrol enamel and wondered why it woudn't fly. Later came a largish Keilkaft glider which got doped properly, actually got into a thermal once and chased it into the next field wondering what had got into it. Happy days.
  11. Plenty paint left if you want some. Part of a two for one first order from Watco, £80 a big tin , original use was for roofs, high end spec, I used it to rejuvenate wrinkly tin garage roof, only used half
  12. Put legs on my one so it is a comfortable height, now stripping the clear sticky plastic so I can paint with solar reflective paint left over from another project, then install a shelf, drill /cut hole for electric cable
  13. Agree with KC, move the firewall forward and make a battery compartment
  14. impossible to go back to page one! MODERATOR
  15. My bunker was waiting for when I came home an hour ago but my intention is to fit it out as a waterproof box for charging , not for storage. I don't worry about storage but do about charging in my wooden garage, even though I do it on a large concrete slab.
  16. Had a B and Q voucher so ordered a metal box as Leccy suggested , blooming site accepted the voucher but no discount at the checkout. My site is in full sun all day so thinking of using the foil and foam used for behind radiators externally.
  17. You must have paid by card or Paypal so take it up with them, I had a refund from Paypal, no problem.
  18. I also source adhesive vinyl from my local sign shop but the lady laughs if asked for offcuts so I stopped asking. If depron wing is covered with vinyl it makes it almost crashproof, well almost.
  19. Is this for the rudder? Either is suitable
  20. Perth College built a model as a project and asked to fly it at our field, all fit to go with a buddy lead. A few seconds into the flight came the dreaded BBrrp and the ailerons separated, mind you the instructor said it was a good lesson in aerodynamics!
  21. My son and I went too on the Saturday, impressive lightning before the show but the highlight was the Sea Fury pass at 400 kts (480 mph). Sadly more weather meant the Balbo was cancelled
  22. We are quite happy to fly all electric, there were none against. It is a beautiful piece of rural solitude and we want to get on with our neighbours
  23. Facebook Marketplace has a terrible reputation for scams, I use Gumtree but it from personal experience is dodgy too. Last item I put on the buyer wanted me to buy some sort of voucher and give it to the courier, like you smelt a rat , no sale, but sold it next day, cash at the door.
  24. As previously said storage is not a problem, charging, shorting and damage from crashing is.
  25. Soon after the move to our new site we canvassed the few local houses for their opinions on our noise, the most negative one was that he wished to sit in his garden on a Sunday morning after a hard week and enjoy the silence. At that we decided that electric was the only option if we were going to be good neighbours
