  1. Served in 11 days, suggest; scored and slow roasted, with cider, halved garlic bulbs, sage and sugar and seasoning. Sides to suit one’s origins and tastes.
  2. I’ve always liked the Polish inter war gull wing fighters. They: have an existing survivor. are pretty no undercarriage issues. Can land in a hayfield half stalled. Have flown one, nice aerodynamics. Spoiler, areas of corrugated finish. I’ll slink away now.
  3. Fair enough Sam, your plane, your choice. If others think it suboptimal, that’s their choice as well.
  4. Variations on the scheme are possible, buts that’s efficient and quick. Yes, the main power switch on the aircraft. To be more specific an electronic switch that fails on, and also as a side function of battery volts. Not vital, as telemetry functions relay receiver voltage in real time, and allow for low voltage alarms. The point here, cheap mechanical slide switch, I don’t trust. Re Spektrum branded smart batteries, I know they are expensive, mine are just run of the mill generic units from known suppliers. Cost a lot less. Perhaps someone can explain Smart battery benefits, but I’ve never looked or found any. The sizes you mention are fine.
  5. Is red better than black. I use a piece of gasket paper from a great big motorbike/ exhaust, lasted for years.
  6. I do remember the screaming motor sounds, and the zero to vertical climb at half throttle. Rose tinted, I don’t think it lasted long. It was easy to launch.
  7. Bananas machine on 4s. Mine eventually exploded mid hooligan. The carbon spars pulled out of the wing.
  8. I think how insurance works, third parties can claim on that policy. But if you are not following reasonable terms, the insurer can come after you for every penny you own, to recover their expenses.
  9. Keith, I too was a copper. I ended up doing and managing forensic crime scene investigation. As they say, no one cares until some one is dead. Then the teams roll in and it grinds the problem very small. The CAA people are the same, except when I have worked with them, they are (or were) just a little sloppy about cross contamination issues. But only a little.
  10. Nowt wrong with a DX6e, I’ve got one, and would see you through the learning process, and beyond. Other makes exist. I like LiFe batteries as well, but you are way over size. A 1400 batter is easily big enough. A 1000 is also fine. I’m assuming to want to do an hour in the air, and go home with half a charge left in it. ie, no stress. Buy a good switch, mine display voltage. Be very wary about fake Spektrum receivers, most on E bay are fake. Colour scheme, look at your projected colour scheme, and imagine it against a sky. It will disappear. Your picture above tells the story. Ugly as sin, but visible. Red top surface. Black bottom surface Fluorescent span wise wraparound stripe, on the wing leading edge.Fluorescent tail feathers. Red and black contrast and also stand out against the sky. That leading edge stripe come into vision when to turns it to face you, and the rest of the airframe becomes thin. One of the skills you will acquire is muscle memories to KNOW what the plane is doing from stick inputs, and what they will do to the plane, rather than what you hope it will do.
  11. I’ve found, celebrate the repair. Hole in covering, irregular splodge of film. Area to repair, use a contrasting colour. Live with it. accept some stuff with a soul poured into it, gets the repair of Old Master treatment, but a trainer?
  12. It’s a trainer.. as Jon says, no big deal, and no brownie pints for looks. Tool to do a job, learn to fly.
  13. Yea, but while we are verging towards racism, the owner of HK is an Aussie, and we are aware they breed to kangaroos.
  14. Can we elderly eyed flyers have a bit of colour in the prototype. Like yellow, or red. In western France I reckon “c’est quoi?”, more than development history, in conversations. History here equals, Luftwaffe , or US Army Flying Corps.
  15. I fly this sort of stuff. You are 800 miles away. But that is give away cheap. Box it, post it, double the price, plus post, plus packaging. Still a bargain. Thereafter, there is a gap between bargain and realistic price. Your choice, I give stuff away, as I like to think it’s getting used, but that is desirable and very cheap.
  16. If I was going from scratch, 4s battery, and appropriate motor. reasons only one battery, simpler wiring, less faff each flight install two batteries. a bit cheaper, one bigger battery is not twice as expensive as 2 half the size. performance is the same as the watts you drag out are the same.
  17. Cool box, some hot gel packs.
  18. Cheer Paul, I’m happy, I thought with about 20 I was had an issue. I will sleep better tonight.
  19. Sounds like gold dust. I might start by visiting the local club, chat with chairman, secretary, and hence get an advisor. Suggest, advisor gets a cut of the proceeds, I would want 20% some of that stuff is rare, of value. But, on the other hand, it’s going to cost you time to shift. Or buyers in of stuff, A “a plane old bargain” springs to mind. But they shift kits, engines, and major bits. The accessories are not of interest.
  20. Arrrrrrrrrrr, but you first need a culture of safety. I live in France, and it’s not as rooted. Be grateful. Less deaths all round. I don’t think ( I’m sure) my fellow club members would not support my view.
  21. I live in a club without safety officers. The environment can be lethal at times. We have 2, both basicly long term incompetent non learners. one flys biggish aircraft, the other a seemingly endless string of 40 size trainers. apart from the entertainment value, I don’t do any activity, but watch carefully and warily when they fly.
  22. I assume you don’t use a spar, just the skin to take the loads?
  23. I own a Laser 75. It was bought new by a fellow club member, a Forman toolmaker at Dowty undercarriages. Knew his machinnery. Sold on to a bit of a numpty. Who sold it to me a decade or so later, non runner. Parts only. I reckoned worth a punt. I reasoned, assuming he hadn’t broke it, and I was fairly sure he had not flown it. Timing had been altered. Simple’s. Still going nicely in a DVII. £20.
  24. What sort of paint on the glue side and then stick Ron. I am interested, current hooligan hack will have an off wall paint job.
