Toto needs his instructor to be available, and his club rules won't allow him to fly solo I believe.

What are the reviews like?

BMFA Mag February 2024.
GrumpyGnome replied to john stones 1 - Moderator's topic in All Things Model Flying
I"m not arguing for it to remain on paper... I've long been an advocate for digital. I was simply pointing out that most people who don't read it, will still not read it, because of the content. Which is a shame because it's nice to see what's going on in other areas of model flying. -

That was probably aimed at those who do not read it because of the content, not the format. Those people most probably won't bother to read it online either... -
Welcome, from the NE Coast. You'll find this forum us generally very friendly and welcoming....... certainly in comparison to some others!

Imperial to Metric Conversion
GrumpyGnome replied to DavidKP's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
As the thread is 7 years old, I'd assume the OP found a solution 🙂 Although the conversation about strippers is useful..... -
Are we putting too much balsa into models?
GrumpyGnome replied to kc's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
With the seemingly ever-escalating trend towards over powering planes, any lessening in structural integrity needs careful thought..... Feels like if it won't climb vertically for 400 feet, or can't do 399 foot loops, it's underpowered. -

I have previously been told there was a way of opting out - that would have saved money. As this isn't the first time you've posted something 'as a joke' that wasn't taken as such, can I respectfully ask you signpost humour......? -

Some people just like to rant and complain..... -

As has been said many times on this forum, the regulations and authorisations are complex, and difficult to understand for many people. The 'spin' (more accurately called interpretation) is possibly the only information some will take in, so has a purpose which better serves our hobby applauded, not ridiculed. Others will obviously disagree.- 49 replies

"Terror firmer" ... love it!

It'a probably easier to ask which to avoid. I have a two-heat-setting Bosch that must be approaching 25 years old. Still works for planes and paint-stripping.....

DIY ( external ) Lipo to ESC killers
GrumpyGnome replied to toto's topic in Model Engineering and Accessories
Not a new idea - external arming has been around for years. I remember seeing one disguised as one if the scale bulges on an FW190 nose. Personally, if it's tight enough to be secure, I'd be scared that the constant tugging would weaken the airframe. Even with one if these fitted, I'd be nervous of having a LiPo accessible only through a screwed down hatch. As I used to be nervous of having to remove a wing to change batteries. Just my opinions of course. -
For political sitcoms, 'The Thick Of It' gets my vote, followed by 'W1A'......

I believe digital/voip rollout is being reviewed as some personal alarms won't work if the router loses power...... probably only a delay while they work something out. We had an 19 hour power cut last week - despite not being glued to my phone, I really missed Internet access. It wouldn't have been as bad if I hadn't managed to use most of my data allowance using my phone as a hotspot in my workshop. Sorry, rambling! Sadly, demise of landlines is inevitable. We'll still be reliant on wires between wooden poles though. In the last few months, fibre broadband has arrived in our little (under 200 homes) village so we've had loads of Openreach vans. Amongst all the high-tech equipment is a pole that they hold under the wires to make sure they're not too low....

Have you lost the P51 canopy?

I suspect (hope!) the 'documentary' comment was tongue-in-cheek 🙂

His take off was pretty abrupt too!

Forecast here similar to leccyfliers.... I'd be in the workshop now, as it's quite mild, if the plumber wasn't here sorting out the heating.....

Lemon .... Spektrum compatible .... 6 channel Receivers
GrumpyGnome replied to toto's topic in Other Radio Brands
Personally, I do a proper range check on any new install and prior to a re-maiden following an 'arrival'..... I know some people do a range check before each session , or even each flight. More 'good practice' for you @toto -
Lots of things on this thread are waaayyyyyy off topic....
