  1. Having worked in financial institutions for all my working life, I'd say it's billions of transactions, and the amount of fraud from strangers (hacking) is a tiny percentage of fraud, on a tiny number of transactions. Fraud by family members/partners is the highest percentage. If you are sensible, on-line banking is more secure than carrying cash/cheque book around. I can't remember when I last wrote a cheque...... must be years ago.
  2. Welcome to the ranks of the retired. Now you're on the mend, you'll love it! Wish I could have done it 40 years ago.......
  3. Proper 'good news, bad news' story! Looking forward to a video if it soaring......... like a bird. Nice one Simon.
  4. My RM/Parcel Force parcel from Steve Webb arrived about 20 hours after I ordered it - I must have been lucky....
  5. Brrr. Minus 1.5 - surprisingly only me here! But not for long I suspect....
  6. Yes, I'd try a heavier battery if you can shoe-horn it in .....
  7. Has your landlord expressed concerns about multi-rotors previously? If not, talking to him about potentially allowing them may actually cause that concern...... just a thought - you know him better than I!
  8. Kudos to Steve Webb.... ordered yesterday, just arrived!
  9. Some interesting uses of sliders......
  10. Hooefully your Riot isn't a belly lander 😁
  11. Switches for me, with slow deployment....... never used side sliders....
  12. That's the stuff that blooms in the damp, and is no tougher than pound-a-tin wood varnish, in my view.
  13. We do too - me 🙂 For christmas, I need a cattle prod to make all our pilots stand close enough to hear each other.... even indoors they seem to think it's okay to stand in their own corner... sorry, thread drift!
  14. Very sad new. RIP. I think her son was in 'Warbird Workshop' rebuilding a recon spitfire on TV a few weeks ago......
  15. @Peter Jenkins I meant the BMFA recommend regarding control positions, rather than actually having one.... some fliers recommend things like adding a bit of rudder, or a bit of up/flaps etc.. Any instructor should check compliance with BMFA/CAA regs. @Paul De Tourtoulon Very true, but performing this should be part of the pre-flight checks that the instructor will help undertake. A beginner would not necessarily do that on his own - and an instructor should check it, in the same way they'd check failsafe, rather than take any new pilot's word for it. I get the point that it's necessary to know how to enter Spektrum's range check mode. (Although I never rely just on the transmitters range check function and also check range the old fashioned way.....)
  16. The other advantage I found is that in the damp, models painted with varnish do not get a 'bloom' - ones painted with a 'specialist' product do get a 'bloom'...... Gloss also makes my little Arrows Hawk look soooooo much better. And to mirror other people's comments, no, you don't need to add skids etc. to your Phoenix.
  17. +1 for what Nigel R said - take your time and install it well. Regarding your transmitter, familiarise yourself with the basics if how to access, and change: Binding - ensuring transmitter and receiver actually communicate Model selection (I think you said you have more than one model.... if not, ignore this element) Rates - how much the control surfaces move (model manual will tell you) Expo - how 'sensitive' control surface movement is when the transmitter controls are near neutral (model manual may tell you, if not, leave at zero but knowing how to access and change will be useful) Setting Failsafe - what happens if the link between transmitter and receiver is broken (BMFA have recommendations on their web site - you'll get lots of different opinions on this! All my planes are set to make sure control surfaces are neutral; any electric motor is switched off; any ic engine is set to idle) Everything else like mixes, timers etc. can wait imo.
  18. If it's foam, any water-based varnish will offer as much protection as the 'specialist' products (not a great deal of protection tbh!}.... can't imagine what else you'd have that needs varnish. I think my pots are all from pound shops - gloss, matt and a sort of in-between.
  19. 1. No, foamboard tends to have a paper covering - Depron is more like the trays you get chips in... 2. Yes. Some ic/electric fun fly types kits (e.g. Fusion) do just that 3. Ali works - uhu por may 'eat' the foam... 4. Yes, but it'll be less resistant to 'dings' 5. Shrinkage may distort the structure, too much heat could damage the foam 6. Don't see why not - just make sure structural loads are catered fir, e.g. interplanes....
  20. I've never used mine - it just sits, forgotten, in it's nice little draw-string bag, at the bottom if my field box......
  21. We're quite a small club - around 33-36 members typically. The vast majority of our members are retired - some recently, some for many years. We've had multiple articles in local papers/magazines, and stands at local events, but I think all new members in the last 5 years have come from word of mouth or via BMFA club finder.... a number are returnees to the hobby. We've had many discussions about attracting new members but struggle. Agree with comments re youngsters - we only have 3 juniors, 2 under 10 (1 an occasional flyer on his dad's buddy box), and one teenager who can rarely get to the field as he lives a fair distance away and is reliant on his father being willing to give up a day off work to stand in a field with people he has little in common with.... we have minimal facilities! Also agree with comments re membership types. I think in 4 1/2 years, I've only met about a dozen of our members - some of these only once. It's a busy day at our field if there are 3 flying!
  22. Excellent! Onwards and upwards.....
  23. Given the appalling standard of driving often seen, an annual test might be a good idea!
