    I own a Metcalfe Ta-152 I bought -from Spain!- when I was 17-18 years old. I always had an interest on the F-15 so I am very interested in your exerience with this model.

    The supply chain is just as explained by "kevin b". Unfortunately, is quite hard for distributors / importers / wholesalers as manufacturers have raised prices singnificantly (Seagull Models more than 20%) and then you also have shipping costs raising a full 300% of those one year ago. All these factors make a model which ran out of stock and imported now to twice raise its sales price, something distributors / importers / wholesalers think cunsomers will not understand nor accept.

    My current experience is the same that of Steve! I also live in Spain and this December is the first time in 45 years ordering plans from UK that I had to pay fees for receiving them. Even publisher noted a lower price than real on the "Green Card" sheet, I have been charged 5.50€ for customs clearance and then 2.00€ more for delivering the shipping to my home, all by Spanish Postal Service. I think it will become unavoidable here, so the solution is to make large orders so that the extra 7.50€ charge may be better assumed. Other point is the seller didn´t detract the UK VAT from the order, so I will ask about it on future orders..... Finally, my experience with shipping reliability does not match that of Jon from Laser: During the 45 years I have been ordering from overseas (UK, USA, Gernamy, Belgium, Australia,....) I never had any problem correctly receiving my goods but just for one purchase on Ebay from UK of a Gordon Whitehead book on Scale Models 3 or 4 years ago.

    Sorry Jon, but not. The problem happened 3 or four years ago and I didn´t take any photo of the piston-cylinder set. When I discovered the damage I was not very worries as I kept those parts from an early OS 40FS which suffered a worst end as it crashed against a pave stone and just broke in 2 parts, ruining the cranckase and the conrod, but without damage to the piston-cylinder set. Having a sure backup and as I was unable of noticing any damage to the cylinder I decided trying the repair and it seems it was a success as the engine is now occasionally flown on a Spanish vintage trainer type model and it runs fine.

    I was sure some twerking of the needles would be needed but I, simply, didn´t have time to do! I just opened slowly the throttle with my fingers already on the high speed needle, ready to open up, but the engine quit abruptly. Then when I tried to rotate the propeller noticed an anormal friction and decided giving up trying to start the engine again till I could have a look at the workshop.

    The engine flew every Sunday using 10% nitro Modeltechnics Formula Irvine and Ducted Fan fuels -the latter more than 5 years old- for more than 2 years without a problem nor quitting once on the air. Then the engine sizes a few seconds after switching to Modeltechnics Duraglo 16%. After repairing the engine (only the piston required some work and polishing!) it has been working faultesly since then, using again the original fuels. Sincerely I do not know if the problem came from the 6% more nitro, the 3% less lubricant or, most probably, the combiation of both but you may be sure I have lost all interest on trying 16% nitro glow fuel again in any of my 4 stroke engines.....

    The piston seized against the cylinder. And it happened so quickly that I simply didn´t have even time to twitch with the needles. I used the 16% fuel just because I runned out of stock of my normal 10% and went for the 16% so as to being able of making a few flight more, but no way after the seizing!

    I ruined my vintage OS 40FS using by error a 16% Modeltechnics fuel, so I personally do not recommend going over 10% on OS Engines.......

    There are many plans missed through the years and this is one of those! Thanks Dale for publishing it! Other one lost is no less the small Sirocco from Duncan Hutson about which I asked to Traplet some years back and more recently to Sarik and neither was able of tracing it. Just recently Sarik Hobbies has made available the large Sirocco version with molded and wood parts and since I got it from Ebay UK just last year know that the plans is intended for a kit and as such, is of limited use if you want to buy from scratch. If somebody finds and publish the small Sirocco plan it would be great that such design from Mr. Hutson is not lost forever.....

    For running 4 servos in the wings you will need 2 x SBD1, as each one allow connecting 3 servos. You may connect the servos on each wing to a SBD1 decoder and then connect each SBD1 to a "Y" type cable connected to the S.BUS plug on the receiver. If you go for the SDB2 you will have to make a normal cable installation with long servo cables up to the SBD2, this is 2 labeled long servo cables for each one as up to the SBD2 yours should be a "normal" installation. So if you want to use the S.BUS capability of not worrying and messing with servo labeling and possible error when connecting them, best solution should be 2 x SBD1 decoders. If economy and practicallity for future models is your option, the SBD2 should be better.

    Malc, no, it is not possible to ptogram SBD1 decoders from your radio. To program them you actually need the simple SBC1 or the more advanced, which I prefer, CIU-3. Anyway and if you are going to use several ordinary servos I recommend you going for the SBD2, just a little more expensive than SBD1 but cheaper if you add the SBC1. SBD2 may handle up to 8 servos, you do not need any other accessory to program it and even it may accept a separate batery to feed the servos connected to it. I do have both but rarely use the SBD1 units unless I just need one or two ordinary servos connected to a S.BUS receiver.....

    I want to pass my most sincere thanks to Phil and the entire staff at Model Technis for so many years of excelent products and service. I have been a devoted Model Technics user since I discovered it in the early 90s when it became available in Spain and I have never left using it since then! It will be sad when I finish my current stock of fuel from the brand and I will have search for something different. Probably I will return to buy separate components and mix my own fuel. All the best to Phil and his team at Model Technics from a Spanish user.

    Preference of Chinese wind turbine blade manufacturers for balsa is a good indication of their quality value! It is decades that experienced and quality composite manufacturers worldwide rather prefer synthetic core materials against balsa due to the differences of density of the natural wood. Furthermore regarding blades that if different in weight need static and dynamic balance! The composite manufacturers I know though of using balsa as core for their parts ONLY when oil prices highly rose taking up related products like plastics and, we have to reckon that oil had not been cheap lately. I think things now may greatly change as these days worldwide consumption of oil has fallen and it is clear that nowadays trend for electric powered cars will add to that reduction, thus favouring lower prices of synthetic materials and making even more attractive it´s professional use even for Chinese manufacturers! So, perhaps, balsa availability is not so endangered as we might think at this moment.

    It is most like Martin says, but petrol engines have evolved in recent times -as well as glow four stroke ones!- and if a gas 30cc is requird for the model, I should rather go with your Super Tigre 25cc.

    Matty, please, add me in to the thread. Initially I will tackle 2 gliders: Robbe Impulse: This is a 2 channel trainer glider which was used as a show model by Robbe Spanish distributor during early 90´s. Model is incomplete and in a quite tatty estate. My idea is to restore, add the missing control parts, installing radio and converting to motor glider. If successfully restored I will donate it to the training area of my flying club. Multiplex DG600: This is a 3.500mm span semi scale glider I bought second hand from a very good friend in 1997. Just at the second day glider tugging it took and small bush, overturned and broke as I was not quick enough to release the tug line! It requires repairing the fuselage, making a complete -and detailed- new cockpit and canopy and thoroughly check control surfaces, servos and wiring. I will add photos of models current status during the weekend. Thanks.

    Giles, first of all welcome to the forum! Regarding your question, I think actually there is a flat plastic seal on bottle cap. Please check again and if not sure you always may secure the cap with PTFE thread seal tape.

    Two important details: 1.- When you buy from USA you are not charged any USA tax; if you lived in the same Estate where the shop you are buying from is located you should be charged with the corresponding sales tax (from 18 to 25% dependending on Estates), so you should considere normal and correct to be charged VAT when goods arrive to UK! 2.- From 1st january 2021 and when buying from continental "Europe" you should have to ask the supplier to deduce his country VAT as you will have to pay the corresponding charge in UK so, perhaps, difference will not be so terrible -even for me when ordering from UK!
