Building TN Halifax

Hi guys

Last photos before maiden

Just want to say that Unitracts retracts are quite good.
Not even one minimal failure
Since the moment I aplied them always working perfectely.
I don't use the servo valve they send
I use one Air Power electronic valve.

All working fabolous.

And the running up

I used 15 liters of glow fuel to put, with the help of my good friend
Sérgio, those OS 30 running properly.
To all of you that are making the Halifax, this point of tunning the engines is
the most important.

And now
dedicated to all you guys that have been supporting since I begin this thread

Absolutley fantastic Mario,

A brilliant first flight.............., it had to be really given the standard of workmanship you have shown us all.

Hope mine (eventually) turns out as good as that.

Kindest regards

Craig

Just as a conclusion.

The plane flyes great but the flaps are essential for a real scale flight.
In the other flights after the maiden, when the model were correctly trimed
we could clearly see that the plane passing low without flaps balance
a bit the wings and need aileron correction. With flap half position, the speed was quite reduced and the plane were very stable, and the flight very consistent and scale.

The OS 30 engines is the correct amount of power for the plane.
The climb must be quite progressive in an angle from 15 to 25 degree.

We are achieving a better aileron response and the elevator comand is quite sensitive.

Congratulations to Tony Nijhuis for this design, but I just don´t understand how can he say
that don't put flaps because he thought the model will be very " draggy" and in the RCM&E video that I saw a thousand times, the model flyes in a speed not to pretty for this plane.

Guys if you are still in time put flaps. That make the diference
See as I see the Halifax passing at a very low speed at 1m of the ground is
an image we can forget.

Best regards

Mário

Hi Mario,

Congratulations for your first flights and thank you for sharing us your great experiance.
Very nice video and pictures. Hope you will enjoy this beautiful plane with many flights during the summer season.

I take note of your comment about the flaps. The only part I have built now are the wings (but without flaps) . I don't know if can still change it. I will see when some others will probably maiden soon.

one question though: wich is the total weight of your plane and how does it feel like when you pilot? Does it feel light?

kind regards

Hey we also have lot of sun since two weeks in Belgium now

Hi Michel

The final weight of the model dry ( no fuel) is 10,400Kg That is the result of
change the tail wheel servo up to front, put a NiCd batery of 15 A ( 6 x 2500 mha/1,2 v) for the glows plugs in the nose ( 400 g ), two lipos 220m mha (350 g ) also in the nose, and near a 300 g of balast lead for correct balancing point.
Only 3 coats of acrilic resin upon the glass fiber, paint and one hand of barnish.
Notice that I have more 4 servos Hitec Hs 81 in flaps, cables, hinges and linkages than Nijhuis
prototipe.
And cables to the plugs are quite many and heavy.
About flying the model I must say that you have to fly it just as scale. Is noble but like a turbine jet. The response of the engines have some delay.
For example if you make a low pass at the midle of the field you must apply near full engine
for at the end have power to rise up.
Anything else you want to know just ask.
Ahhh, about the flaps, you can cut them out, make a leading edge in the flap and a trealing edge on the wing and make them work easily, without doing that scale work I do.
Well
Best regards
Mário
