john haz
What do experienced model flyers keep "in stock" ?? I'm sure there's the odd member out there that has a massive fleet of planes & heli's ?? Just concerned I must have some strange OCD problem ! I just can't resist buying bargain planes 3 months ago I had a few helicopters & a plank flying friend suggested I should buy a plane (the operative word being A - as in singular !). Here we are only weeks later & I have more than a couple 'Er indoors seems to tolerate it well & other than my mitchell, they were all fairly cheap s/hand models in varying condition. Every one is setup, with receivers, RTF but the weather just isn't being kind ! All electric, mostly small warbirds with an oddball or two thrown in ........... Is this normal - will my condition improve
David Turner 5
Three, in flying condition. One in build. It's a struggle, but I do like to keep the number down ... mostly because I can't be doing with a cluttered shed.
john haz
You got a shed to keep them in too David !! I get allocated one room for my planes & heli's, not very big at that ! She did "allow" me to hang two in the conservatory but that's my limit, so anything that won't fit in my room has to go upstairs at my shop

andy watson
I have to build, otherwise I would have to buy different planes all the time. Since my last build has taken over 18 months it slows me down- so.... john haz
What can I say to that little lot !! Some of you are really serious cases aren't you ..... I think some therapy is in order LOL Does Tim win with 26 total ?? My little fleet looks quite lacking in numbers now Planes: Art-tech P51 Mustang Phase 1 P40 Warhawk GWS P38 Lightning HL B25 Mitchell Art-tech Sukhoi SU27 GP Catalina Unknown BAE Hawk edf E-flite P47 Thunderbolt PZ FW-190 (collecting today) Swift 2 flying wing and the heli's HK450GT Copter-X 450 carbon Concept 450 carbon HK500GT The sad part being, I havn't had much chance to fly the planes. The mustang, P38 & P40 have been used well but the rest either little or not at all ! If only we could buy good weather My next move should really be to ask the boss to buy me a DX7 for my birthday, 10 slots on my DX6i is not enough now Burglars ?? I'm sure those members with sheds have some good security & indoors I guess theres a lot more to steal than a few bulky models. Trying to get out of my door with a couple of models would be "interesting" with a german shepherd hanging off their arm LOL Edited By john hazeltine on 15/09/2010 07:52:

john haz
50+ The sad part is Ken, had i got enough room in my little hovel, and enough cash in the RC fund, I'm sure i could find a few more i would like.a few months ago I was heli only, no real interest in planes, but since buying my first cub trainer it's sort of grabbed hold a bit & I just love all these old warbirds. Last Sat I bought a well used P47 & although I havn't flown it yet, I love it ! The seller (David) was an absolute gent & only wanted £20 for the airframe & servo's, one cheapie motor, a spare receiver fitted & she's ready to fly later this week i hope ! This hobby really is cheap (at my starter level anyway), my Son races GP midgets & a set of tyres cost £800, each race meeting expenses are over £100 & maybe £3k to build the car .... makes my planes look like a paupers sport !! The most I have paid for one plane is the Mitchell, £185 - most of the others were £50 ish + a few oddments. The lightning stands me maybe £100 or so. Can't see me doing much else ! ken anderson.
well my experience-over 20 year's since i started out with radio model's.................is that you will go through all the type's that have/will take your fancy....you'll end up with a core of model's for all occasion's...and prob have one or two favourite's...........sometime's i look at my present collection and think of the reason behind a particular purchase.......the latest one i have aquired for £10.00...is at least 20+ year's old...and is now part of my squadron..... and here it is after a bit of TLC...................... ken anderson...ne..1.. Tim Mackey
I definately dont "win" - there are many people with far more than 26 models John - I personally know of at least 3 people with over 100.
Erfolg
As with most modellers I have many planes that have not flown for years, from before the turn of the century. Those which I can theoretically fly, but do not, because the Lipo needs recharging etc. and those which I fly, mostly in phases. In phase models. 1) 2m Sagitta - inrunner 2) 2m Sagitta - out runner 3) 1.5m Sports plane - Weiss kanninchen Occaisionaly 4) A1/2 powered glider type - Toll Heidi 5) 2m Powered Flying wing - Holtzflugel 6) Dornier 335 -Nitro models Very Occasionally 7) 120"E- Powered Sagitta type derative (takes to much effort to assemble) 8) 144" E- Super stretched Saggitta type (takes to much effort to assemble) 9) 3m EMP E-Powered Algebra (takes to much effort to assemble) 9) Ballerina -RCM&E indoor 10) E-Powered VS- Playboy On test - working out bugs 11) Retro-Nobler E-powered 12) 36" FW Ta 152H 13) Gee Bee R1 not flown in years, no gear in 14) Ridge Rover - Solent Sailplanes? 15) Flair Sunshine 16) Me 109T, awaiting turn for electrification 17-20) RCM&E Hotpot 54? 21) canard glider - flew like duck 22) A few I only remember when I come across them in my mothers garage. Under Construction 23) PM Cassutts - Electrified, needs UC 24) 44" Fw Ta 152H For me storage is an issue, some in my building room, some in my garage and some in my mothers garage. Plus all wardrobe tops, much to the better halves annoyance, or is it laying a guilt trip on me, so as not to mention bulging wardrobes? john haz
Yep some of you are certainly into these planes aren't you LOL. I think now I must concentrate on learning to fly better, although to be honest i like having them to look at & work on when flying isn't possible. I really enjoy swapping electronics, playing with the watt meter, testing this & that ....... like electronic train spotting isn't it
Phil Claridge
flyable 8 new kits 4 reaparable maybe's about 35 that i can find without serious delving, and 4 dead awaiting disposal. reason for so many they were all bargains and i have stopped crashing them so often as i used too
john haz
Phil - you have hit the nail on the head, whilst learning it has to be "disposable". Obviously I don't go out to crash & I try to be sensible(ish) but when there's no-one else around on my early morning sorties I do tend to fly at 120% of my ability. My latest FW190 is as near mint as it could be & I will be careful with it until it is damaged. The mitchell i will only fly when conditions are perfect, the Cataline, well maybe one day. As for the others. they get used & abused, it's the only way to learn quickly i think ! 35 in storage is a lot though ! Until recently every one of mine was RTF, but I have had to shelve the mustang due to lack of space on the DX6i ;-( Looking forward to testing the Jug & FW at the weekend if weather permits ! (and the swift wing that i built 2 weeks ago !)
