Things will have changed! I fell out of the hobby for about 10 years as well (re-joined about 3 years ago).

when I left brushless motors (with sensors) were just coming onto the market and even then powered by heavy NiMHs and mostly people were dyed in the wool IC flyers.

Now at the field I'm the beardy wierdy flying IC on 35Mhz whilst virtually everyone else flies electric off 2.4Ghz sets.

My only mistakes were due to not researching the new technology properly so I stuck with the "good old" tech and ended up with a brand-new 35Mhz 6EXa (which actually cost more than the 2.4Ghz version ), a brushed motor and a rucksack full of NiMH battery packs. At least it made the boys at the field laugh when I turned up!

Anyway, welcome back

Glad to see you've come back into the "proper" modelling side of the hobby with a plan build. Good stuff

Welcome back Tim, as has been said, they all come back sometime. You are not alone, I too am still on 35Mhz and with ic, althought I do have 1 leccy job. Be carefull, there are some on this forum who might try to move you in to the dark side, of this hobby and try to convert you to electric models Beware. LoL. FB3

I do have a couple of cheap Eleccy models but there more for fun. Its been a while since ive been so hands on and this was my first plan built model. i think the years of Airfix came in quite handy.

With the weather being the way it is at the moment I dont think i'll be giving her a maiden flight this side of christmas.

I've always wanted another IC powered plane after my P-51 had a little accident at the hands of my dad. I found out that model planes dont generally do well against 100 year old oak trees.

I'm having a few problems uploading photos anyone else having trouble.

Thanks again guy for the encouragement and welcome.

Hi and welcome.

About photos: try to keep them below 500kB otherwise you wait ages to upload (yes I am in the countyside - no fibre optics in the next 20 years...) and don't delete your pictures from the albums as they are just linked to the postings - means they will disapear when deleted in the album.

Restarting: you will find many of that, I am no exception. Had a 15 year break.
Cheers VA

Agree about the changes in technoloogy, I have just come back from a 3 decade abstinance and was amazed how things had moved on - my last rc model was driven by either rubber or steam !!!!!! I thought a lipo then was a thing you blew up and slept on..........
