terry westrop
Kwik Fly III ....everyone's fave model from back then. I could only afford the little flea fli with an OS 25, was still a lovely model. That LD III is built to last! Some serious sanding would help make it a bargain buy! Even the original canopy included. Edited By terry westrop on 07/09/2014 22:08:
Masher
Gangster Lite with Irvine 53. Maiden today plus 3 further flights, fantastic model - does what it says on the tin. I don't even mind the hideous cowl now, the rest of the plane makes up for it:
Martyn K
I didn't use the cowl with mine, I made it up from balsa and liteply. It looks great, well done. Martyn
terry westrop
Gangster....alive again! Didn't know they were back in production. I had the 63 version way back. Was a nice easy aero 'trainer'.

"L"Plate
Cloud Models now deal with the PB models, I think you can get all the PB range if you contact Phil at Cloud models but not all are showing on their web site.

I flew a 75" Gangster for years and I have to say it was and still is one of the best models I have ever had, I have to say Mick Reeves got this design spot on, such a good all rounder, so much so that I use it a the bench mark for build quality and flight performance for all of my own designs. Martyn K
While looking for an image of a Ken Binks design, I came across this website. Although the models are more recent than our main interest area, there are one or two familiar faces her; British Freestyle Aerobatic Championships Gallery Enjoy
terry westrop
Wow Martyn, all those years of memories! Amazing what's to be found on the internet I guess. There must be loads of Ken's pic's around, he was at the top for a long time with a number of successful designs.
Giuseppe Ghisleri
This is a picture I took of the late Mike Birch and his Capricorn at F3A World Championship held in 1973 in Gorizia,Italy. I'm looking for plans of this model, can someone help me ?

David Hardaker
I trust you flew it with a 10-channel reed radio....!! D
terry westrop
Not seen that picture of MB before, nor the decor on that version of Capricorn. They were usually beautifully coloured. From recollection I believe this design was only produced in GF Fuz/foam wing kit form with minimal plan/instructions.

I have just completed but not yet flown this Morris that was Italian champion in 1969 in the capable hand of its designer Graziano Pagni. I have to say that it's electric powered. Peter Android
A Winning combination - Mike Birch , his Capricorn and Skyleader SLX Radio Modeller - JULY 1973 This is a long - lost mag , recently found whilst having a clear - out. The included article is not of sufficient quality to resolve properly on my scanner , but if anyone is interested I can type the script on here ? Giuseppe Ghisleri
I have a lot of old magazines and it was truly easy to find this particular issue of Radio Modeller. The article has nothing to tell about the Capricorn except that it was used to win english championship. In the same issue there were two ads I will post later. Anyway, thanks for your willingness to help. Edited By Giuseppe Ghisleri on 25/12/2014 18:34:
Peter Android
you are more than welcome mr G. This may be of interest to others ? Interestingly , the included article includes some ( poor quality) B/W photo's of the Capricorn's in probably the same colour scheme as the pic' you posted . not as the Mag title photo. It also mentions that Mike Birch . at the R.A.F Lindholme Nats' , Became British Champion Overall + Nat's Winner , the event was also to hold the final trial for the U.K team selection for the World Champs , which as you kindly pointed out , were to be Held in Italy. 3 x flight Lines ran at the same time. 1 x Shootdown when two transmitters were allowed on the on the same colour ' 1 x Mid - Air collision and Morrie Stuart 's Tx. set on fire when frequency checking ! After the Nat's events were concluded , the team trials had the top six lads fight it out in a fly - off over a further 2 rounds. All other flying was stopped for the purpose of judging . The nearby assembled crowd looked enormous . Team selection results. 1.Mike birch ( capricorn) 2.David Hardaker (superstar ) 3. Dennis Hammant 4. Terry Cooper 5. Tony Doust 6. mike Bone. also mentioned is a " comparitive newcomer " Martin McIintosh ........... Giuseppe Ghisleri
Two pictures I shoot in Bremen, Germany, at the 1969 F3A World Champioship, a bunch of english models and the english team. P.S. Looks like there is no chance of having a Capricorn or Capricorn+10% 3-views or plan.
