David Davis
Hi everybody! The trusty Laser 90 in the "works" Senior Telemaster is in need of an overhaul. I am going to fit a new bearings and a new piston ring. I used to have a print-out giving detailed instructions on the valve timing, or perhaps more correctly, the cam timing of Laser engines. I'm blowed if I can find it now and I've trawled the internet to no avail. Anybody able to help?
Braddock, VC
www.laserengines.co.uk cam timing is there.

Jon H
There is also a thread on here called the laser appreciation society. I posted details of timing for both singles and twins
Engine Doctor
Hi If you set the cams "on the rock" at TDC then it will be fine . On the rock is when inlet is just opening and exhaust is just closing . Hope it helps .
Stevo
I'e assembled a few... follow the instructions and diagram as has been mentioned. I've never had a problem!

Martin Harris - Moderator
If you use the Internet Wayback Machine or similar, you can often find deleted website information such as this: **LINK** Hope it's useful!
Jon H
good grief that old site was awful. For anyone who wishes to remove their cams please take a photo of them before you remove them from the engine. Its good practice and will make refitting a doddle

Geoff S
Just take a photo of the cam positions before you remove them. That's what I did earlier this year when I overhauled (ie cleaned and fitted new bearings) an old Laser 62. Photographing stuff before taking it apart is one of the boons of digital photography. trebor
Ok, Which one is correct Left or Right ?
Martin Harris - Moderator
Going by ED's guidance, the right hand one looks correct (I assume they are both at TDC) but the best way to check is with a degree disc on the crankshaft and using the info from the old Laser site I posted - but Jon might be able to confirm by eye? Ace
Like Martin I think its the RHS on a small capacity Laser. The LHS looks to be 180' out between exhaust/intake. Where is Jon hiding when you need him
trebor
The left hand was out one tooth on each cam. I can confuse myself really easy
Jon H
its really hard to tell from the photo as the picture is taken at an angle. The left engine is wrong but I think the other one is ok
Jon H
Just had a closer look. I think both are wrong, and im also pretty sure neither are at tdc as the pinion drive is not in the right place
trebor
I hate to have to say this but these are not the easiest to set up
