Speedster
New life for the Ridge Runt Flying my Ridge Runt with EDF for the first time. Set up is a 13,20 euro 55 mm Hobbyking EDF and 50 Amp esc and 1300 Mha 4 cell battery. I think it was ment for 3 cell battery, but at that prize I will run mine on 4 cell Let's see how long it will last.. It pull 25 Amp and 295 Watt on 3 cell and 36 Amp and 560 Watt on 4 cell. On 3 cell it flew ok, but much more fun on the 4 cell. The EDF can be removed again in less than 30 sec.
MattyB
Ahhh, the Ridge Runt, a true blast from the past! Flew pretty well for it's size as I remember, though I'm sure now it would feel woefully dated given the mouldies I've flown since. A friend and I used to fly informal pylon races with ours back in the late 80s as schoolboys. Lots of fun and you learnt to repair stuff too! Nightflyer
I still have my Ridge Runt after some 18 years and aside from having to recover it currently, it has had many flights off the slope or towline or aerotow. The Coyote always appealed with the electric configuration but never got round to getting one. Fortunately I kept the plans and made templates when I built mine so I can always build another if I need to.
kc
There is a short kit and plan availble now for an improved Ridge Runt from this supplier of laser cut parts.
Piers Bowlan
Coyote E-Glider kit is still available from SLEC here (good value). I wonder if it has the original Ridge Runt flat aerofoil or a semi- symmetrical section now? I too nearly bought a Ridge Runt kit years ago - too many models, too little time! J D 8
HI Piers,My Coyote has a flat bottom section. It also has a small rudder,a personal mod to keep it pointed in the right direction with out deploying the ailerons. This helps keep it up if the lift drops off . Piers Bowlan
Thanks for that JD. Rudder sounds like a good idea or at least I would fit one if I built a RR. Another great couple of videos from Soren.
Murat Kece 1
Here's my BALSACRAFT COYOTE. I got the kit from one of club mates - it is probably 20yrs old.. Great little glider. I modified the design by moving the servos to the wing rather than a single central servo and fixin the wing to the fuse with a wing bolt. Here it is on the maiden at Cairn O'Mount.. 20210523_133742.mp4 20210523_133742.mp4 3
Skippers Walker
I've just spotted the posts about the 'Ridge Runt/Coyote'. I'm in the process of building the SLEC Coyote electric version very much as a nostalgia trip. With gathering years and my old local slopes no longer readily available, this little project appears attractive. I still fly mainly electric gliders from a flat field with a few other 'old timers' so the Coyote appears to offer a trip along memory lane! Great photos too. Skippers Walker
Hello Murat Many thanks for the post and the video of the Ridge Runt/Coyote. I've almost finished the fuselage and the wings look to be quite straightforward. A nice simple and well presented kit from SLEC. The little motor (2822-1200Kv) arrived today and will fit perfectly at the 'sharp end'. I look forward to a maiden sortie in a week or two and perhaps it will evoke some happy memories from flying similar models sometime ago. Best wishes SW 5 hours ago, Murat Kece 1 said: It is a great agile flier.. Good luck with your build.
