Hi

Did anyone else buy one of Aldi's compressor / airbrush sets?

I bought one a couple of months ago & unboxed it yesterday to spray the latest build. I'm using B&Q matchpot paint (valspar) thinned with water. Results so far are disappointing . Pressure is about 35 psi, the paint has to be thinned so much that you get hardly any volume on the model.

Does anyone have any experience or tips?

Cheers John

We have a Boyes in Ripley, Derbys that stocks all sorts of useful stuff - a wide range of Humbrol enamel, UHU Por (and other UHU adhesives), Gorilla Glue and cutting mats. It's a small town department store I use a lot.

Geoff

yes One here for Boyes - great store, used them for years in Yorkshire.

I am no expert - more a complete airbrush beginner. However a more experienced person told me that you should not use water for thinning the paint, but proper airbrush thinners, or to use on of the home brew mixes. For example see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GduiWyWmoiM

If you use too much water I was told that the paint would not adhere properly.

A few things John, and non of it to do with Aldi, and Plummit is right too

Different paints, pigments, have courser and finer particles that make up the colour

Paints for airbrushing are formulated fine for spraying

Water does dilute, but does not add plastic or acrylic to paint, it dilutes the paint too much

Airbrush thinners contains the same support as paint and does not dilute the plasticity

35lb is far too high

Best results are between 10lb and 15lb

So forgive Aldi now

As has been said do not use water to thin acrylic paint use tamiya thinners or use bespoke paints for the airbrush nozzle. if you want to spray the likes of Valspar use an airless spraygun (about £30 ) it has a bigger nozzle and can cope with undiluted Valspar paint

John

Could be the Airbrush nozzle is too fine for the paint type, therefore you need to over thin to avoid blockages. My last spray work I was using a 0.5 nozzle. The smaller one I have would not spray well without extra thinning and blocked easily. Worth a check.

Try adjusting the needle John.

At the opposite end to where the spray comes out, is a knurled nut

Open it, anticlockwise one turn, and test spray, is it better?

Proceed to adjust and test spray until the pattern you desire emerges

A bit like tuning an I/C motor, you will hit a sweet spot
