John Timmis
Hi Did anyone else buy one of Aldi's compressor / airbrush sets? I bought one a couple of months ago & unboxed it yesterday to spray the latest build. I'm using B&Q matchpot paint (valspar) thinned with water. Results so far are disappointing . Pressure is about 35 psi, the paint has to be thinned so much that you get hardly any volume on the model. Does anyone have any experience or tips? Cheers John
Geoff Peacock
Posted by Geoff Sleath on 24/09/2017 15:00:18: We have a Boyes in Ripley, Derbys that stocks all sorts of useful stuff - a wide range of Humbrol enamel, UHU Por (and other UHU adhesives), Gorilla Glue and cutting mats. It's a small town department store I use a lot. Geoff One here for Boyes - great store, used them for years in Yorkshire.

Cheers John I am no expert - more a complete airbrush beginner. However a more experienced person told me that you should not use water for thinning the paint, but proper airbrush thinners, or to use on of the home brew mixes. For example see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GduiWyWmoiM If you use too much water I was told that the paint would not adhere properly. Cheers John A few things John, and non of it to do with Aldi, and Plummit is right too Different paints, pigments, have courser and finer particles that make up the colour Paints for airbrushing are formulated fine for spraying Water does dilute, but does not add plastic or acrylic to paint, it dilutes the paint too much Airbrush thinners contains the same support as paint and does not dilute the plasticity 35lb is far too high Best results are between 10lb and 15lb So forgive Aldi now
Martian
As has been said do not use water to thin acrylic paint use tamiya thinners or use bespoke paints for the airbrush nozzle. if you want to spray the likes of Valspar use an airless spraygun (about £30 ) it has a bigger nozzle and can cope with undiluted Valspar paint
Stuart Z
John Could be the Airbrush nozzle is too fine for the paint type, therefore you need to over thin to avoid blockages. My last spray work I was using a 0.5 nozzle. The smaller one I have would not spray well without extra thinning and blocked easily. Worth a check. John Timmis
Hi Thanks everyone for the help & suggestions. The job is getting there although slowly. I am having to stop & clear the nozzle very often. I would like to say that I am a big fan of Aldi & am sure that the problem is with my technique not the kit. Denis Watkins
Try adjusting the needle John. At the opposite end to where the spray comes out, is a knurled nut Open it, anticlockwise one turn, and test spray, is it better? Proceed to adjust and test spray until the pattern you desire emerges A bit like tuning an I/C motor, you will hit a sweet spot Edited By Denis Watkins on 20/08/2018 12:57:

TartanMac
Has anyone had one of those workzone scroll saws before it looks like a great deal very tempting. Edited By TartanMac on 01/10/2018 20:16:
Geoff S
I bought one last time they were stocked (last year?) and it's great. The price seems to vary. IIRC mine was £59.99 but some on here found them for as little as £30 once the rush had subsided. I'm quite happy at the price I paid. Martyn K
I got one earlier this year and paid £40 for it. Its useful, but not as useful as I thought. Quality is more than adequate for light usage, Martyn
Stephen Jones
Hi, On Sunday 25th November Aldi are selling Ski wear. I am thinking about getting a jacket and pants for use on the slopes when flying my gliders. Do any of you guys think they will be any good or can you recommend something some where. Cheers Steve
Ron Gray
The thermal wear clothing they sell is good, I use their thermal vests when it’s cold.
Paul Hartley
I bought some ski trousers ( sallopettes) a couple of years ago and they are great for cold windy days either at the field or on the slopes. They are designed with “braces” and a back panel so very comfy and keep your back warm as well. Well worth it at the price they usually sell them at. John Robertson 3
Like Paul Hartley, I bought the sallopetes and used them last winter. They were perfect. So much so that I bought a 2nd pair this summer in the half-price on-line sale. Then I bought the matching ski-jacket, again half price. They were excellent, and I'd be perfectly willing to pay the full price If I needed more.

Peter Miller
I used to use Salopettes many years ago, great. I might even try for another pair after feeling very cold yesterday.
