DaveyP
Hi all, given the price hike in new receivers (Spektrum) is it sensible to look at pre owned equipment ? I'm thinking that, as there are no moving parts there is nothing to wear out, is this sensible or should I stick with new at the higher price ? Robin Etherton
Hi I still have a 35mhz transmitter and have bought all my receivers second hand off ebay. Like any second hand purchase you have to take a litttle care. I only buy from sellers with good feedback and test the item for range every flying session. So far I have had no trouble When you are buying take a good look at the general condition of the case and lead . If they look tatty then walk away. Hope this helps Even new receivers can have problems. Robin
Nigel R
The specific issue with Spektrum would be the amount of fakes out there.
Peter Miller
I have several old 35 Mhz receivers. No, you can't have them. I still use them on my simple gliders or vintage style models. They must be over 20 years old.
Paul C.
Take a look at the Orange rx from Hobby King they are a good price and new, I have 2 of them and have had no problems. Paul.
Richard Wills 2
The amount of fake/backdoor Spektrum stuff means unless it's in sealed original packaging from an authorised dealer I won't touch it. I buy Lemon instead.
Don Fry
I agree that on sites like E Bay, new stuff should be assumed it is fake unless proven otherwise. Buying secondhand is a risk unless you trust the seller. I use a mix of new, secondhand. But I stick secondhand in smaller stuff. I also have never a a hitch with Orange receivers But I had a new high end unit, and the thing glitches to failsafe every 10 or so flights. It was installed as instructed, the data logger gave good results, passed all rangetests, switches perfect, ample batteries. How do you guard against that? Game of blood. peter harvey 1
Most people in my club are using Lemon receivers, we have never had a problem with them and I have 12 of them. The 6 channel divertisly receivers fro the manufacturers work out at about £15,oo and are on a very quick delivery from the manufacturers cheers Peter
DaveyP
Orange & Lemon are they compatible with my Spektrum DX6i Tx ?
peter harvey 1
Both are, I have personally experience a 50% failure on Orange receivers and no failure on Lemon, which is the club has changed to Lemon (this was approx. 4 years ago, the situation with Orange may now have been overcome Peter

DaveyP
If I wanted to buy the above citrus based Rx's where would I look ?
Richard Wills 2
Lemon RX sell direct from China, or there is an ebay shop based in the UK. Orange are Hobbyking. I highly recommend the Lemons, and have them in all my bigger nitro models, but not Oranges in my experience, Total loss on one, and lots of glitches on others. I still use them in small foamies though,

Robin Colbourne
27 & 35MHz receivers were particularly prone to damage in a crash, as many people stretched the aerial tight and fastened it to the top of the fin. In a crash the receiver shot forward, giving the aerial hard yank. In some cases the aerial wire broke inside the insulation, and in others, the joint to the circuit board would have been weakened. Crystals were also prone to impact damage. How many of those people who shouted 'Interference' as their model spiralled in, were actually the guilty party? Trevor Crook
I bought a set of radio for an r/c car from ebay, and it was fine. But I've only ever bought used aircraft r/c from fellow club members, who I trust.

Robin Colbourne
I'm a bit out of touch with 2.4GHz terminology. Having looked at that Lemon receiver, what, for heaven's sake are 'diversity antennae? One black, one white, or one straight, the other, errrr...., not straight? Tom Thomas
Is there a similar set up like this for Futaba?
Old Geezer
Tom - have a look on HKing, I think they have a variety of Orange Rxs to use with different manufacturers' Txs. I have some 2nd hand Spectrum Rxs [all with satellites], & two 2nd hand Mpx Rxs - all bought via BMFA classifieds. No problem with any of them. Like a lot of folk my experience with Orange Rxs has been mixed [no prob's with any of their satellite set-ups though], my only Lemon Rx has so far been faultless. So if you're buying 2nd hand I would stick with BMFA Classifieds. [Always been satisfied with used ESCs and Outrunners bought off this site too.]
