Decals ordered from Callie Graphics 09Aug18 arrived today including me checking to see where the order was last week and Callie humouring me by confirming dispatch and saying is normally 2 weeks for post!

Good customer care and good product. smiley

I belive Callie lives in NEW MEXICO which would take 2 weeks. I don't know if you scale people out there but Callie has a new line, instrument panels with raised bezels. I asked her if she could do one for a L19 birddog, she thinks it's no problem, just have to send the size. Is there nothing this lady can do.

It was and possibly will be my intention to use Callie Graphics. There are a number of good reasons. The first is that she has both responded to my inquiry. The second she can do them. A third is that her prices are affordable. Also many others in the UK could not bothered to respond. Although one UK business is not presently in a position to consider the work.

As many will recognise I have and continue to have issues with my printer/scanner an Epson Stylus SX425W. The problem from a scanner perspective is that the scanner would not send a scan via the Wi-Fi. As suggested I then used a serial connector between the Printer and the PC, then the issue became one of a transmission error.

As a precaution I decided that I would print out a copy of the Decals, for reference if the originals became lost mid Atlantic. Having some Decals paper, I decided i might as well use a few sheets of the stuff, as the back up. I will say now, another aspect of my scanner printer has raised its ugly head, the Epson is pants. There is a tendency for striping also there is another aspect I never envisaged, the copies vary, some by a wide margin, in colour, of the same sheet.

Also it does not recognise red when scanning so it would seem.

I have set about adding the red to the Pumas to tongue using FW Acrylic Artist ink, Scarlet 567. Which you can compare the middle scan with another to its right. Also the red edging has been omitted from all of the scans both the Puma and letters (alpha numerics, oh how I love jargon). I have added the edging to the middle Puma, having made a radius rule, with chamfer. I also did a trial lining on the same transfer, which cannot be used due to the very poor "N". I have completely lined the numbers on the transfer to the right.

I will continue to produce one set of usable quality, from an art perspective, although not of great quality. I will then multiple spray with water based varnish, probably 5 coats.

I then probably decide if to try one, to see if they are usable.

As to Callie, I will probably have a set made.

Related question...once they have been attached do people leave as is (even IC glow powered models) or do you coat the entire aircraft?

Callie recommends a "clear coat" and I was wondering from the experienced forum members what they have used to achieve a matt finish.

PS I can brush or spay if necessary.

Chris. I haven't coated mine ( electric ) and so far no lifting and I'm in a very humid country . They hang in the shed with temperatures very hot in the day cool at night. I should coat them sometime, probably use a semi gloss varnish and airbrush it on. Hope this helps.

Carl,

One important side note > I suppose your Epson is an inkjet printer.

If so, the ink is water soluble. You should NOT use a 'water based' varnish to protect the prints after printing as it will ruin your transfers.

Instead of trying to re-draw your dodgy prints, why don't you just take your originals and some decals paper to your local copy-shop. No need for scanning, just make some copies. Simples, no?

Cheers

Chris

@Erfolg - I too have an Epson printer / scanner connected to my Mac as an airprinter and noticed that printing was getting worse with streaking and missing colour. In the end, having spoken to Epson support, I updated the print driver and that cured the problem! Seems as though the Mac was choosing the wrong driver.
