J D 8
Just because it's a challenge. I have had this 110 inch span aircraft for many years. Can you identify it and it's motor. Edited By J D 8 on 02/11/2019 13:51:
Don Fry
Motor is a Magnum I think, is the machine a Grob? Of some kind. BTW, the Magnum is for sale. Complete unit. Run in only.
Gary Manuel
Well the registration mark suggests a Grob G 109, but that had a high tail, so it's not one of them. Edit - read it wrong. It's a Scheibe SF-36R. Kit by Robbe. Edited By Gary Manuel on 02/11/2019 14:43:
J D 8
Gary has it, a Robbe SF-36 near scale model of the Scheibe called "Siros" Fuzz/fin is car bumper material with wing and tail obechi skinned foam covered in solartex. Purchased as a nearly finished project in the 90's radio is original Fleet gear and it has only one centre servo for ailerons and no airbrakes so landings can be interesting, has the ability to float on and on and on even with a low approach. While it fly's well enough.[ if you don't mind the wings that flap with any gee that has club members sucking in air at times ] getting it off the ground is another matter given the power of the yet unidentified engine. You now also know where Elvis finished up.

Don Fry
How I lubricate my bits is a personal question.
bert baker
The Magnum looks to be missing the pinch bolt for the carb and exhaust tubes

J D 8
Yes Bert, early Enya 40 -4c open rocker. Will pull the skin from a rice pudding. Just. Yes Martin, was last run on castor at least a dozen years ago [ given up that habit ] However it was filled with power steering fluid as after run and turns over fine and freely. PatMc, The RTF weight just under ten pounds but there is a lot of wing 110 inch span by an average cord of nine inches so the loading is low. Off tarmac or smooth grass take off's are looong, I paced one out once on tracks left in dew coated grass, it was nearly 100 paces. Once in the air it has a positive climb out. Thinking of putting in a Irvine 60 so I can fly her again on our less than perfect club strip.
bert baker
I had a Enya 40 open rocker for years,,,, came to me gumed up beyond use from caster abuse It cleaned up nice after a long soak in tub of glow fuel, Runs superb now destined for a old school Ben Buckle plane thinkig of the retro weekend
J D 8
I am also thinking something vintage for the Enya.
John Bisset
My recollection is that the original full size didn't have a particularly sparkling take-off performance either. Nice model, though Elvis is being a hog, or maybe is modelled towards the end since he is apparently occupying both seats...
bert baker
Is this the state of a new game,, It’s a bit like the old tv program Out of town with Jack Hargreaves
J D 8
Hi Bert, Got the best out of the Enya [ in the Siros ] using a Master Airscrew 10 x 4 . John.
J D 8
Update, Just ran the old Enya up on some modern 10% synthetic fuel and it seemed to be pulling well, better than I remember it going on the old castor stuff. So I plan to give it a go as is. Neighbour has well grazed sheep field that should do when we get a decent day.

J D 8
We share our club strip with the woollies as well, so quite used to the do dahs.
Robin Colbourne
As this isn't going to be a particularly fast model, and its the acceleration across the ground that's the issue, how about trying one of those 12.25" x 3.75" APC funfly props?
Robin Colbourne
A bigger tailwheel may well help too, both to reduce the rolling resistance and the angle of incidence in the initial acceleration. Full-size Grob 109s have a very large tailwheel about 8.5" diameter.
