EarlyBird
Let's hope not Peter but I fear that there will be, even at my slow build rate. The thing is Nigel I am not trying that hard as it's intended to be a quick build. What seems to be happening is that the building is becoming easier as I build more aeroplanes and consequently the quality is going up. I still make mistakes though but they are not as bad as on my first build. This is good practice for The Ohmen where hopefully there will be less mistakes. More fun today Yes a lot more sanding and shaping plus three hinges, one more than yesterday. I have to decide on the colours before long Red, White and Blue are patriotic so I read on another thread and that does seem like a good idea at the present time. EarlyBird
Checking the assembly to work out what needs doing. Plenty of movement? Would that make good flaperons? Looks like it will be able to do extreme 3D/aerobatics, way beyond me though. Just a bit of fun Cheers Steve
Peter Miller
What you can do with a Fun Fly model is nobodies busyness. And that is before you even try!!
Peter Miller
Been going through so very old photos on a back up drive. Found a set of flying shots.
EarlyBird
Just like the one in your article that Sarik sent with the plan pack. Ten years ago and using 35mHz I see. I have seen Fun Fly models being flown by competent pilots and as you say what they could do was nobodies busyness. Today I have fitted the wing to the fuselage by inserting the dowel in the leading edge, fitting the wing bolt and adjusting the seating to fit. Not a lot to see just fiddly and time consuming. The wings are now ready for covering. Tomorrow back to the fuselage starting with the bottom sheeting from there I will play it by ear. One thing I will not be doing is going out of the house in these cold frosty slippery conditions. Cheers Steve
Peter Miller
It is one of the shots taken for the article. I am sitting looking out at flat calm conditions with a great big flat field right in front of the house. Unfortunately it is foggy and covered with frost so that is as near as I intend to get to it. Peter Miller
Haven't heard from you for four days. Hope you are OK
Brian Cooper
I like Fun-fly models. They are completely bonkers and can be tied in knots. . . Superb, insane fun. You know you're getting it right when an old duffer says, "Yes, but it isn't very scale-like is it...."
Peter Miller
Oh Yes!! WHen you do a roll from take off as soon as there is clearance for the wing it makes people sit up!!! Or Rolls between two touch and goes. Perhaps I should do another one!!!
Doctor Chinnery
Or as you walk back to the Pits and someone says in a mock critical tone of voice: "You've been enjoying yourself again, haven't you."
EarlyBird
It's been five days since my last post! Life, health, lock down and world news has been affecting me. Thanks as always for the support and as a result I have done a bit. Good news that I have started again but not very impressive. kc
Peter, yes you should do another fun fly design - maybe a bit bigger (50 inch?) and a fun fly that looked a bit like a real plane with some sort of cockpit woud be unusual. .
EarlyBird
Cooking on gas today. Not brilliant but it will fly, one day. Cheers Steve

Agree KC. Fortunately, so did Nigel R and produced this piece of brilliance: Once he's got a plan, I may well be tempted! Peter Miller
The Bede 8 would adapt to the concept.
Trevor
Yes, that model of Nigel’s gave me flashbacks to the control line stunt models of my schooldays. Now that I think of it, I believe I’ve still got the plans for the Mercury Monarch somewhere. . . . .

Great profile too, so decent knife edge performance. Graham
EarlyBird
This looks interesting. A mass build coming up? Obviously when the balsa supplies are back to normal. We just need a common theme, ideas?

EarlyBird
More done using up scraps of covering. Getting there slowly. Cheers Steve
kc
Steve, the plan seems to show fillets between fin and tailplane - are you using them?
EarlyBird
It does and I am KC. I hope this is OK as it took me five days to come up with it. I wonder how long it would take me to design a model. Cheers Steve
kc
That looks quite neat. I think it looks better than the rounded ends shown on the plan. Alway a pain to cover the fillet with film.
