Rich Griff
A few weeks ago I stripped and cleaned this old engine. There was not a lubrication channel in the c/case, but now I know. I made a new rear cover gasket and reassembled the engine, fitting the new spray bar. I ran 6 tanks ( about 10cc ) of Mt d1000 thru the engine, low compression and rich at first, gradually increasing compression and leaning the mixture. The last tank was "on song". Good starter and will be going into a kk champ control liner, which will take me right back to being 10, just hope I don't fall over dizzy ! J D 8
I flew the same combination some fifty years ago,, still have the Sabre and run it perhaps once a year just because.?
Michael Kulagin
You just can't beat the smell of the ether in fresh fuel, the smell of burnt fuel is just as pungent but not as nice. Chopped my fingers many times on PAW 19D's and Copeman Oliver's.
Mike T
Just read this thread and popped out to get get a quick whiff of Southern Modelcraft Sport Mix. Accidentally dabbing my hooter on the edge of the can means I am typing this post and getting a hit with every breath! ? NB - don't do this at home, kids - just say no... Nightflyer
It must be an age thing as since my youth and oily diesel and glow free flight and control line models being replaced by rc, that in the last couple of years I have had a yearning for them once more. What is perhaps sad is the fact that good old DC engines - my favourite as a teenager are no more and few and far between. Let's bring back the Good Old Days. Alan Gorham_
Few and far between? One of the reasons Davies Charlton and successors went out of business was that they overproduced engines that nobody wanted. They are still in plentiful supply and crop up regularly on ebay, at specialist model engine sellers such as Bamopro or if you can wait a couple of times a year at Gildings vintage model aero engine auctions. Rich Griff
The rise of RC equipment and Japanese engines, change of hobbies, and yes, probably over production... DC engine where good, as are paw who are still making them. Cox was also good, making complete ready to fly c/l models, as where kk.
