martin collins 1
Today i have started covering my latest build, i am using Polyspan with DeLux Cover grip which is similar to Balsa Loc for a heat activated `glue` to stick the covering to the model before it is shrunk and doped. The heat sealing iron is getting a fair amount of the cover grip on it as it sticks the covering to the airframe, what do other people use to remove the adhesive from the iron whilst they are working? Mike T
Turn it up to full heat then wipe firmly with some thick, coarse cloth. Also, as I have carpet tiles on the workshop floor, I can also rub the hot iron vigorously on one if required!

Trevor
I use surgical spirit. Seems to work okay without damaging the Teflon coating.
Keith Berriman
I cut up an old pillowcase or similar material and form a shoe shape with a hollow hem around the top thread some string through to hold it around the iron. This can be turned over or thrown away
Don Fry
Acetone shifts it cold. Skin unfriendly. A warm iron, just about any solvent, but a bit of kitchen towel provides a bit of abrasion to shift it. White spirit is cheap, and smells not too bad. I have never been a fan of sleeves on the iron. The sleeve just gets in the way of the hot iron, as it shifts and moves, between the heat and target. Clean off frequently. Change the iron every decade or so. Wilco Wingco
I use cheap baby socks from the supermarket. £ pairs for a couple of pounds. They can be used then turned inside out, washed or disposed of in recycling bin. Works for me
