  1. Thanks chaps for all the info. I was gifted the airframe in a less than perfect state. Needed new wing tips , stripping of old covering but i wanted it to be diesel not glow. Just love the sound and smell.. See through wings and tail in yellow and sky blue trim. Here we go . Mike
  2. I have just bought one of the above intending to put it in my last vintage old tiler. Its a Majestic Major and the PAW outputs the same umph, according to the technical info I can find. Anybody got any comments on model size it will support, prop size and starting would be welcome. Mike
  3. Just think of the last major, or ant IT project, produced on behalf of the Government. Horizon?. would you trust the bunch of numpties who developed that system to control and track your hobby?. Besides do the government actually think that the criminal element in this country will conform, just like the gun laws>, Only law abiding citizens will comply and i'm sure the police or whoever will be tracking slopers on the great orme?. They cant even pick up shop lifters in the middle of town. Too many criminals not enough police.
  4. Pity the BMFA can't organise a similar event to replace the NATS. 1500 mile round trip is a bit far from southern England. Even further from the north I'm sure most flyers have a WOT4 electric or I/C tucked away in the loft and there is already a site ready and waiting at BMFA HQ.
  5. Fit a prop, "borrow" the wife's hair dryer, apply gentle heat and GENTLY rock the prop back and forth gradually increasing the arc of movement back and forth over time. As the castor heats up the motor should free up. When you can turn the prop through 360 add after run oil and turn the prop to distribute in the engine. Works for me every time, a word of caution, ware gardening gloves as the motor will get hot.
  6. Thanks chaps for all the replies and opinions. Sounds like you pays your money and rakes your choice. As regards "painting". I was wondering if I could cover the whole airframe in lam and then "trim" it in solarfilm, thus avoiding the paint flaking issue?.
  7. After reading all this information I want to cover my Majestic Major, I think in mat, so it will keep the vintage look and feel. Is there any information about the thickness of Lam to use that is best suited to the size and weight of the finished model?. It will be powered by a 61FS engine.
  8. I bought a BOT off E-bay unseen and when I picked it up I found that the winds had dihedral not polihydral. Still at the price I couldn't complain. Will this make any difference to its flying characteristics? I plan to slope it on summer evenings.
  9. I seem to remember reading somewhere that boat varnish is a good fuel proofer. Also some floor varnish works well but can't remember where I read it?.
  10. Thanks Andy for the info. I assume someone, site developer, is looking into it??. It would be nice to be assured that the problem, if there is one, has been investigated and fixed. 🥴
  11. I have replied to 3 adverts in the last week on this site. So far no reply from either even though the message has been sent, according to the BMFA site. Is the messaging facility still working or are sellers nort responding or marking their items as sold 😏
  12. All the models I have set up on my DX7 with elevons have been with 6 channel receivers. Channels 2 and 6 for left and right aileron. Set the 3 way switch to "manage" the direction and amount on movement with elevator offset to smooth out ballooning.
  13. I didn't say he was taking his A cert just looks like he made a silly mistake even a learner would not make. After re watching the video I think we will have to agree to differ on his position on the field. Maybe it was the camera angle?
  14. Did I see that right?. The flyer actually moved so he would be in the line of fire if the prop broke as he revved the engine up to full throttle?. A sure fail on an A cert test???.?
  15. Just bought one of these at a club auction. Reading all the comments the surface movements and CofG seem pretty critical. I have read all the info I can find but there is no mention, in the instructions that i can see on either. Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to write it off on my "maiden" . Cheers Chaps.
  16. Shame I was proved right, total shambles the return to classified does not work properly, it loses the format you have chosen i.e list or grid, always returns to grid. Doesn't return to the position in the list that you left, always reverts to grid and top of list. Just like this site same problems and failings. Won't be using it to look for bargains. What happened to migrating users and passwords to the new system?. 20 year ago I migrate 4000 world wide users to a new I.T system with no problems. So much for progress.
  17. The first R/C model I ever built. DC Merlin power, Terrytone receiver, rubber powered bang bang actuator. I was 14 at the time and loved every minute of building the model and the receiver. Flew like a FF with a little nudge now and then to keep it in the park. . Ah those were the days ?
  18. Lets hope that the "conversion" to the new site is a damn site better than this one. The loss of old postings and the inability to connect existing links to information that was "lost" in the conversion is a real pain.
  19. Does anybody know how to "clean" the internal female contacts on a XT60 plug ???
  20. Thanks Martin that's good to know. Still better to be sure to check the origin of your equipment though.
  21. If we are, inadvertently, flying with fake servos and have an accident due to servo failure. Would that invalidate our BMFA insurance. ???'
  22. I reported these fake servos to E-Bay 2 years ago and they are still allowing them to be sold. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
  23. The link to the Blob plans doesnt work. Can anybody help please?.
  24. Is there any chance of restoring/finding the links to previous post that were lost when the site was migrated to the new platform/format?. As an ex it manager of 30 years standing this would never have passed the "go live" criteria. I know this site is maintained by volunteers but come on guys?.
