Whey heyyyyyyyy

about time. My wee Supercub is dribbling at the wings ......😄

I canny wait to get back out there. I go on holiday the first two weeks of October and my target is to try and wipe the A test out before then so every weekend counts.

getting the flying right and getting the procedure from start ( getting out the car ) to finish ( shaking the examiners hand ) right. Loads to do an trying to schedule in target dates to hit.

Saturday ..... is all about getting the flying patterns coming together and working on the bits in between to join them all together. I can do them but its just a case of bringing it together into one cohesive display.

I can only talk the talk until the weather lets me walk the walk.

C'mon Saturday.

Today's weather looking promising...

Just a pity I have to work Monday to Friday....

My fellow club members are what's apping about the potential for some flying time tonight but evenings can be a bit tight for me. Today is also a " work heavy " part of my monthly working cycle so I never know until the death, what time I will finish at.

I won't build my hopes up and just go on the basis that it will be Saturday ...... save further disappointment. :classic_sad:

Back to the grind.

Checked the weather for Saturday ...... not good.

Sunday looking better with mixed cloud and sunshine. It will all be down to who's available to babysit now. :classic_sad: still .... there is still time .... and therefore hope.

The so called summer is disappearing fast.

Welcome back to the will I fly won't I fly rollercoaster. :classic_laugh:

Arrangements have just been set for around midday tomorrow so it will be battery duty after all.

I'll get the Supercub packed into the car tonight in readiness.

Sweltering here in N.Essex at the moment, very strong sun as well.......no way could I stand about and frazzle over the field this afternoon. Used to take it in my stride when younger, but I just don't enjoy it when the weather is how it is today.

Will do Leccy.

My wee AeroScout will hopefully get its maiden today as well. I think it will be a great fun flier and ideal for trying out new manoeuvres. Thinking loops and rolls here ....... :classic_biggrin:

The main thing is just to get some bog standard flying time in though.

Cheers

Having had heart surgery, and now with a ticker that's OK but not what it was some years ago, I find temperatures much above 26 degrees coupled with our usual fairly high humidity, very draining and not enjoyable. Hide in the shade with a book and a cool drink....perfect.

A nice 22 or 23 today and I'm getting some exercise by valeting the car. A nice steady job, no rush required. Good to keep active and I loathe exercise for its own sake with nothing to show for it. Worse thing for heart problems is to remain sedentary.

Tomorrow looks good as well so a nice steady day's flying to look forward to.

Take care of the old ticker ...... its your best friend..... and you only have one. Take it easy Sir.

It was an early bath for me today ..... took my first flight with the aeroScout which went reasonable. The 3 mode settings could do with a bit tweaking as beginner mode leaves a bit to be desired. The amount of throw on the ailerons etc is hopeless. I struggled to turn the model without doing a huge big circuit. I ended up flying on 100% rates with no safety at all.

There was a bit wind which didn't help but was manageable on full rates. Landings are a breeze. I used the range test function on the transmitter only to find that the elevator was not being picked up. Turn the range test function off and the elevator is picked up no problem. We decided to fly it and all was good but I want to l9ok further into it as its obviously not right. Must be a setting in the transmitter. I'll look into it.

Next up was the Supercub. Took off and only got half a circuit done and started to really struggle to keep it level at all. Persevered, slowed it down a bit and dropped altitude thinking maybe the wind was effecting it....... no ....... into a spin it went and I could not recover it  .....CRASH ....... nose first.   Went over to retrieve it thinking it would maybe be just minor damage ...... none of that ........ its pretty terminal...... its a right off.....I'll post up photos later.

I'm a bit gutted as the Supercub was a really nice model to fly. ..... not now.

So ..... the post mortem ....

P1130058.thumb.JPG.8fd5478d078ab08a06e50645dfd3fbea.JPG

wing 1 ..... aileron completely detached but could be hinged back on. Wing support snapped and some parts missing ..... unusable.

 P1130060.thumb.JPG.e45babde1e3e35ad3b49cbdd52b02ee3.JPG

Wing 2 ..... P1130061.thumb.JPG.75a623941d818de1e6e086ba31cf3e10.JPG

Flap 100% detached ( could be rehinged )...

P1130062.thumb.JPG.882c93b6727176a36bfef4db6c5893cf.JPG

Aileron hanging on by a thread. Would need to be removed and rehinged. some of the plastic supports one of which attaches it to the fuselage is snapped off and missing.

P1130063.thumb.JPG.7b91d1cf8bc755fe328c4ffe87aec40c.JPG

The money shot ..... Nose completely snapped off and very extensive damage. prop snapped and actual remaining nose piece split down the middle .... the motor fire wall has also come away.

P1130064.thumb.JPG.739fae164d18910e6bca79de9205fe82.JPG

a bit like that.

P1130065.thumb.JPG.0520a04da378c3836c2726ab50e96a9d.JPG

and again.

P1130066.thumb.JPG.8185a4072a5ba2651ee17ce4db42785c.JPG

Tail plane has snapped off but could be hinged and refitted I think.

P1130067.thumb.JPG.a1fe89eb3cec34577c64c8594157485e.JPG

The fuselage where the nose would be glued back in place is quite severly creased and distorted. It would be tricky trying to get a decent repair on that I think.

P1130068.thumb.JPG.d81155c85896b1d462f5239838891ef1.JPG

bad crack through the fuselage and into the area holding the landing gear.

P1130069.thumb.JPG.3718dc6abe9857e5171eb64fe9a14509.JPG

landing gear coming away and a fixing point to which the wing attaches has completely snapped off and is missing in action.

P1130070.thumb.JPG.46e5c3477f7136d8ebede95facbe24ad.JPG

Battery tray mangled and would need to be replaced .... not a huge job.

I dare say that most of these elements could be repairable but there are a couple of plastic fixtures that were not recovered. I would also need to replace the wing strutts, prop and possibly a couple of push rods. The main deciding factor is also the time to do it ..... I would just rather not.

Just to add insult to injury ..... there is the small matter of the Battery .... as good as new .....

P1130071.thumb.JPG.3c5dc6b8f72b9b6988b2016e51dc146a.JPG

its taken a shunt and has a definite crease in it now .....

P1130072.thumb.JPG.f897891a358a6a548bea2d19389c6ca0.JPG

and at the end .... crease and starting to blow out a bit .....

P1130073.thumb.JPG.cee17b81a0a0f2c68c297cb95e95112a.JPG

and the other end .....

P1130074.thumb.JPG.e2e0e78368b2b04489986276370b72d8.JPG

and puffing a bit  ....... So ... its in here for now .......

P1130075.thumb.JPG.67b9bb62fe31f8f4f44d448fb1284653.JPG

until I work out how  where I will dispose of it .......

Now ........ time to strip down the model and recover as many useable parts as possible before binning the foam ..... and ..... pick my next victim for training duties .....

have a nice day.

Sorry t hear the demise of your tool. That lot is repairable, but it won’t be pretty, and it would take time. But it’s also an opportunity in learning repair skills. But if you don’t have the desire to do so, it’s a hobby, not a job.

One point, check out if the airframe comes as a kit, ie, airframe only, then what’s good from yours swaps over, as you still need the tool.

That lipo is scrap, discharge it to zero volts so it can’t burn the house down. I don’t think I would have it in the house, under a bucket in the garden it would look nice.

game up blood, upwards and onwards.

Hi Don

Its really not worth the repair. The only panel - section that was completely un-effected was the elevator ....

It had to happen at some point.

I have a couple ready and waiting to replace the Supercub but I must admit, I really like flying it.

The Tasman 1500mm and the Arrows Husky 1700mm have just taken out life insurance including death in service as soon as the news broke .... 😂 .... They've been on Garden leave until now.

onwards .... and hopefully upwards ....

The Tasman is a really nice model to fly, I have one as a ‘hack’ plus I use it to give newbies a taste of flying plus use it as a trainer for novices. Its biggest weakness is its UC which is made out of Chineseium so I’ve replaced mine with wire, Cub type. The flap servos are also a bit weak but that won’t worry you to start with.

Hi Learner,

To be honest I'm not sure.

When I took her up ..... keeping in mind that I have been having great results with her ...... until I had to ditch her a few weeks ago when one of the wheels came off. she was really all over the place. not as previously experienced but my mentor ... who was standing next to me stated that it did not look like I knew what I was doing.

I thought that initially ..... it was rough but within my ability to try and cancel out the initial issues ...... however, it just seemed to get worse ..... very quickly.

I don't wish to blame the model as ... we know that 99 times out of 100 .... its the pilot .... and probably is here as well .... but I just felt something was strange. Given that I hardly even got half a circuit flown .... in quite light cross winds ..... I never even had the chance of recovery. I could have passed the transmitter over to my mentor ( as I'm off the buddy system now ) but I did not honestly think there was any need to ...... until that is .... it was too late. The final death throw came quite quickly ....... at least she didn't suffer. 😆

I'm now looking at my Arrows Husky and thinking ....... you're getting it next .....😄.

I am going to spend some time ensuring that the Husky is set up well ..... as was the Supercub ..... but I am thinking of completely removing the reflex system and simply using duel or triple rates to limit throws etc.

I need time to think the next move through thoroughly and ensure that all is good before moving on.

I'm like anyone else .... not exactly happy that I have had to part with my model as I would swear by the Supercub ..... a great model .... but there is no use crying over spilt milk ...... move on.

Hi Ron,

as far as the Tasman goes .... do you think it could handle light to moderate winds.

the reason I have been veering towards the Husky as my next victim is the larger sise and weight.

Open to be educated though.

Learner ..... you are clearly a man who understands the system ....... 🤣

cheers
