Eric Robson
Just to help anyone with panel line marking I have used this for reference. The curve on the page makes the front view look like Peter Miller's Insanity
Eric Robson
10 minutes ago, Ron Gray said: I felt that trying to form the rear fuselage band round the fuse and fin was going to be a bit of a fiddle so I mixed some of my B&Q sample emulsion paints and painted it instead Then I did my usual of applying self adhesive aluminium tape to the cockpit canopy prior to applying paint The rear fuselage band was less hassle than masking and painting it on. I cut it in half and lightly ironed it over the fin using a low heat on the iron. Weather it stays on is another matter.

Bucksboy
I’ve managed to catch up, nearly there. I’m adding the weathering but still have the top of the wing to complete.
Eric Robson
A bit more on the front, top now finished, I've had to add 5 ozs lead to achieve balance at 90mm back from L.E, heavy pilot? or the tail fillets, or not enough sanding on the fuselage. Weight without battery is 3.75 lb battery is 13oz.
Eric Robson
Position of lead I can't get it any further forward
leccyflyer
There are STLs on the RCSB site which include the compressor inlet and radiator frame which would hide that lead quite nicely. For 5 extra ounces would a bigger battery fit at all?

Not too concerned about the lead showing as it won't be noticeable in the air, it is up against the cowl now so not a lot of room for anything else, a piece of fine mesh would go in.
leccyflyer
On my Hs129 refurb, I printed the dummy radial engine almost in bas relief, less than 2mm thick and it still gave the desired effect.
Ron Gray
Just checked my CG and I need the same amount of nose weight as you Eric. It won't be seen!

Ron Gray
No, it's in the cowl either side of the battery tray but all painted black to match the inside of the cowl! I might be able to reduce some of it as I've decided to get an aluminium spinner as I don't really like the plastic ones, when I test ran the motor I could see the spinner back plate expanding out with the centrifugal force. I thought that it was because I had thinned mine down plus cut it to suit the APC prop but I tried it with an uncut one and that did the same. I know that they will probably be OK but I don't want to fly it like that!

I have used those spinners with out problems in the past but I did have a plastic spinner in an ARTF VQ kit disintegrate mid flight.
Victor Arcudi
I found this free stl on Cults. Might be worth having a look...https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/dynam-tempest-air-scoop-grill
Eric Robson
MAIDEN FLIGHT TODAY. A break in the weather and off to the field overcast with a 10 to 13mph wind, first problem the magnets did not hold the hatch on. I think it was lack of a decent outlet for the amount of air coming through the scoop. Elastic band works, took off from the dolly and flew straight into the wind climbing rapidly I flew it for 6 minutes, getting it down was the next problem as I had to land on the short strip, it just wanted to float on. I slowed down further out and it landed straight and level at a low speed. On the fifth flight the wind had picked up again and on landing I put the nose down as it was going to overshoot and the hard ic prop must have been vertical as it pulled the motor mount away, much to my annoyance as I still had 3 batteries left. In all another winner from Richard it flys great and really looks the part in the air, just need a head cam as there was no one to video it for me. 8
Ron Gray
Excellent Eric, well done. A shame about the nose but easily fixed (I hope).

Eric Robson
Not a lot of damage, the prop has no flex in it and the ground is quite firm where it landed. The ply has pulled through the screw which was holding it at the top. Just a re- glue and clamp and back into action. I will paint the interior black as I was caught out by the weather and quickly bundled it together and headed for the field.
Flyer
The model looks great lads. Thought that was a variable pitch prop Eric. 🙃 Easy repair and you'll be up and flying in no time.
Ron Gray
Heavy weathering etc now done (I know it isn't to everyone's taste!), just got to fit the stacks and spray with varnish then on track for maiden tomorrow - the pilot can wait as I haven't finished painting him yet as can painting the spinner!

If mine had been as heavily weathered as that it would have disappeared against the black clouds that were about yesterday, at times all I could see was the white stripes 😄
Paul Johnson 4
Funny you should mention that Eric, some 20 years ago I used to work at the Shoeburyness MOD ranges (looking after the RADAR). Whenever any operatives went out on the sands there they found out of all the different colours in grey foggy days a white outfit stood out the most...
