  1. Oh, please make sure you do buy from a reliable source as even though these servos are cheap as the proverbial French fries (which are not so cheap these days) they do get copied. Steve Webb guarantees the ones he sells are genuine
  2. These are also available from Servoshop, they are fast and powerful for their size https://servoshop.co.uk/index.php?pid=SG92&area=Servo
  3. I think any charger that tells you how much you have put into the battery and allows you to check the battery capacity is far preferable to the usual wall warts supplied with the radio. I normally check the capacity of my Tx battery about once a month and of my rx batteries if I have not used the model for a while. In general use I have a fair idea what it takes to recharge my receiver battery and it is surprisingly little. On a days flying, say four flights I expect my 5 cell battery in a 5 servo .91FS powered aerobat to require about 400mAH to recharge. A charger that can run on 12V is also very useful as, just in case you forget to charge and want to go flying you can top up on the way to the field or at the field if necessary.
  4. Some tx have a diode and or fuse in the tx charging circuit, I have known the fuse to blow so preventing the tx charging.
  5. Strangely not being able to go flying has curbed both my spending and building / assembling so my answer is "Very Little" I have probably sold as much as I bought. Biggest buy was a Top Model CZ "ELEMENT" E-glider (c£400) last sept and I have not yet finished getting it ready to fly. The biggest problem is finding somewhere to assemble the whole thing as it is 3.5 meters span. Even my garage has so much stuff in it that with the Element assembled I cannot move around it and have to go out of the main door and back in the side door to get from one side to the other. Also as it does not fit in my shed my tools etc are always in the wrong place OTOH I am also building a little od model of 40" span or so which other than the cost of a tiny motor and ESC has been built from what I had in stock. - Just as much pleasure making it up as I go along.
  6. Just shows what goes on in the background by the BMFA (and other organisations) while we moan and groan about how our liberties are being eroded. Long live the BMFA (and other orgs)

    T8J beep

I have the same issue on mt T14SG, I can hear the beeps when the surroundings are quiet but not on the field in a breeze or with IC models flying.
  8. Ah yes the RCMF Fly ins - fantastic, superb flying by day - utter chaos and downright fun in the evenings, (Mind the ditches in the dark) - Remember the "Ring of Fire" barbeques! A Fly in at Old Warden shared with a dog show which came to a total standstill when Ali took his Hawk off and did a superb display, all the dogs were quiet, even the xxxxxxx female ones Winterton also holds great fondness, fantastic fly ins if you avoided the rape fields, several models disappeared forever (well at least til harvest time) with several good take aways and fish n chip shops in the village. I guess thats enough of praising other sites long live Model Flying & RCM&E
  9. I think the reasons for the demise of RCMF and the barely alive Flying Sites was the attitude shown above. They get personal and people stop visiting. RCMF was always a sideline for the guy who ran / owned/funded it and it was once the biggest Forum for RC flying. To show the loyalty of its members many - including Moi - donated hard cash to keep it going and I am sorry its gone. This site's biggest plus point is the magazine RCM&E, The mag and website support each other and do it well, the previous site was clunky and this one is not slick but is a big improvement. Re classifieds, there are many places to advertise modeling goods. RE PDR - He is opinionated but is also very helpful, very clever and witty - but pompous? I think some of his comments were / are cutting but only to those who left themselves open to them. Just my .02p worth
  10. My nearest model shop is 45 mins away, a better one is about 90 mins so I rarely visit but do regularly buy from model shops as opposed to online only traders (HK etc) Matt above says he misses inspiration but I call it temptation as in any form of shopping. When I was starting out in RC my local shop would put things aside for you and you paid what you could till it was yours, no finance as such just trust. As well as help, news, a cuppa and just - well - the enjoyment of browsing. Oh and the smell of a model shop, totally unique! especially ones that ran up diesels out the back.
  11. Here on the N.E. coast of Lincs it has been blumming cold for weeks with those Nor Easterly winds prevailing, last couple of days have not been too bad so maybe I'll venture out to fly soon.
  12. A lovely bit of woodwork if I may say so! The plan and general construction reminds me a lot of Hanger9 kits - which is a good thing.
  13. Futaba 3001 are a good balance of performance / price they just work and in anything up to .90 size they are fine. Having said that most of my 3001 have been disposed of in the model when it was sold. I have also had great service from Futaba 9001s and the low end Hitec digitals eg 5625.
  14. In similar fashion I scratch a big X on the side of any suspect servo
  15. Sounds like there are so many buttons and switches I would always be inadvertently hitting the wrong ones, give me two joysticks and a couple of sliders and I'm happy
  16. I also have a 14SG and am most happy with it, of course it is not limited to FAAST protocol! - while none of the Futaba rx are "cheap" there are other options.
  17. Sea Fury! My favourite piston powered aircraft of all time but I can not see me ever building one due to the sheer amount of work involved as shown in this thread. All power to your scale builders elbows
  18. I can only speak as I find but I find but I run all my four stroke engines - OS and clones - on 10% nitro and type F plug. This combo much improves the smoothness of running and idle.
  19. So what is the issue with FAAST? I have several rx and they seem fine. - Fortunately my Tx supports FAASTEST as well as FAAST and use FRSky rx on FAAST with total success so far.
  20. Jeeez, what a load of twaddle - how can the average joe or Josephine "Aeromodeller" contest a constable's allegation that he or she is flying illegally. Yes I have my Operator ID on my models and can prove I am a BMFA member with A&B certs but If a PC says land now! and wants to search me and my car, motorhome or whatever I'll just have to grin and bare? it. I suppose it wont be long before ANPR type cameras turn up on the field.
  21. Local Architects are worth a try for getting plans printed, they are normally able to print on continuous rolls. I had two copies of a Wolfgang Matt Super Star 11 printed locally each fuselage and wings on separate sheets so four sheets cost was iirc c£30 There are still some local copy/print shops that can do this but they are becoming rare.

    10J or T12k?

Are we talking about Futaba radios here? - I fly with a Futaba T14SG it is great but in general Futaba is not cheap. If so you could do better (bang for buck) looking at FrSky or Jumper radios. Having said that if you are or will be joining a club go and see what radios they use as you will be able to get help with set up and you may need the use of a compatible Tx in Buddy box (trainer) mode. If your chosen Futaba radio supports SBUS on the receiver (check out the specs on the Futaba web site)then more channels are available via S-BUS or S-BUS2 Getting your head around some of these radios takes some previous knowledge and research. Finally just to make life more interesting there is some rumours that Futaba may quit RC manufacture shortly. Good luck
  23. No doubt things have moved on since I visited about 6 - 7 years ago but to be honest most models were a bit past their best and due to fire damage part of the main building lounge are was not available. But the camaraderie and general willingness to help and have a good time was super - better than most clubs. - watch out for the snakes in the outfield.?
