  1. Ok on chaincases as british bikes always leaked but a no no on engines. The same applied when silicone gasket came in, awful stuff . Stripped a few engines with blocked sump filters due to over zaelous use of gasket goo inc Hermetite, hylomar etc.
  2. Hi Geoff. One of my mates at the time showed me trick to re-use those copper-asbestos laminated gasket if you were stuck. He soaked them in boiling water for a while to soften the filling . It was a get you out of trouble bodge really but seamed to work for him. I wouldnt fancy doing it on an A10 with that horrible bolt down in the middle; always an issue as decent socket sets were a luxury back then and me and my mates mostly relied on box spanners unless one of the dads loaned us his set.
  3. From Tesco phone shop Samsung A12 x 2 for Β£19-98 a month inc calls texts and data ( far more than my wife and I ever use ) drops to Β£8 each a month after 24 months. Camera is good but doesnt have the gizmos that the youngsters want . Far better and up to date sat nav than supplied in ny car.
  4. A lot of the cyl head gaskets on our bikes from memory were solid copper back then and easily annealed for reuse
  5. I was shown / taught to make gaskets for bikes and cars using the end of a spanner , gently tapping through the brown paper or gasket sheet that was easily availabe back then. I would imagine the spoon bowl is used in a similar way as the spanner ? Gaskets for our model engines are simple to mark out using an oily finger or thumb and rubbing the part through the paper . Ken and Geoff beat me to it while typing. Typing a bit slow as watching the quiz show " Ridiculous" and getting distracted.
  6. Toto A DLE is a petrol engine and not quite the same as a Glow engine .If its a glow engine you intend to use then look specifically for setting up a glow engine . Better than that find an experienced member at your club , not t "the club expert fiddler " as already said and Who often just think they know but someone who really does know to show you . You cant pick up the change of tone etc on you tube as well as you can in real life .
  7. Your entitled to your opinion as am I but tail planes should always be permanently fixed , again just my opinion.
  8. You can also buy bands in colours to suite the colour of you model, look on ebay. Tip , stretch bands hard a few times and hold for a few seconds before fitting to model. They become much more elastic after a good stretch . Beware though that this also finds any defective bands so make sure that if one snaps under tention it wont clip you face or more importantly your eyes. Store bands ina bag with a little talc powder and they last for ages. With old timer models with stick frames dont be tempted to convert to bolt fixings . I know bolt are a tidier etc but If you do c9nvert to bolts and wing tip clips the ground on a bad landing its more than likely to split the fuz. Bands will allow the wing to move without causing any damage and hold wing more than adequate for gentle flight that model is intdnded.
  9. ESC's must be made in the millions and are only batch tested. Its just potc uck really who get the duff ones. Ive just fitted out a small model installing a new ,from a sealed pack, 30 amp ESC . This was eratic at test stage at starting the motor 7sing my servo tester instead of a reciever and within a few seconds let the magic smoke out. After testing the resistance of the motor i decided to try another ESC and success . Leaving an ESC laying loosly on top of the battery though is sloppy instalation and bad practice. Fit it firmly some where with cooling air flow pasding over it . Anything that can move about can alter cg and the moving wires can be a failure point. Good luck with the new setup.
  10. Like most things , use it or loose it πŸ˜‰.
  11. Tedious and difficult to understand by design I suspect. The writers of these and many other questionairs/ polls or whatever you want to call them write them this way to evoke a certain responce, generally in their favour. If a simple to understand straight forward question was asked then their aims would be dashed. By making it difficult to understand they expect and rely on many just not bothering to complete it . Its a bit like philbustering in parliament where the boredom and disinterest generated by a long poitless speach causes any opposition to fall asleep or simply not bother.
  12. I have just waded through it and submitted my reply . I don't agree with all the BMFA guidance and have added my own thoughts / additions etc . I'm tempted to think that its a forgone conclusion as democracy appeared to have died long ago and this " Consultation" is just a smoke screen to appear to be taking our opinions etc into account , although I hope i'm wrong . Time will tell .
  13. Hello Ernst . If servos are faulty then dont even use them for " unimportant things" ! A short etc could let the magic smoke out and bring down the model . Use them on a car or trainset but dont use on a model aircraft.
  14. Time to get a diesel heater ? ☺️ Keep nice and toasty.
  15. Just checked in and seems to be ok now and behaves after clicking it once. Thanks to whoever sorted it .πŸ‘
  16. Just signed in to see if its still bugging ? yes it is !!! Possibly the office have just come back to work after Christmas ?
  17. This is so annoying I'm out of here until its resolved . Bye for now .
  18. I thought it was just my sef up ! Please techys get it sorted its really irritating and only on this site . Ive just looked at the little icon in the corner and if you open it , yes its trying to sell you or the site owner a programme for so called site safety.
  19. That makes it 50 years old ? and 2 days
  20. Should also be taxed at Β£ 0 and mot exempt, although mot check is still a good idea as the Rovers could rot badly around suspension.
  21. Or on the top shelf πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰
  22. Try a pair of the orange nitrile gloves that mecchanics use. The dimpled varietry allthough very thin keep the icy wind away but still let you feel the controls. They are also very tough compared to the blue or black nitrile glovesand last a few wares. Also very handy in the workshop for dirty , greasy , paint or gluing jobs. Beware if you try them order a small box first to check size. I ordered a box of large as that size in most makes fits fine but on the orange ones i really need the xl size as thry come out a bit smaller. After a session a lighter fuel hand warmer quickly restores glowing hands
  23. My new years resolution is not to make any new year resolutions. Just another day πŸ˜‰
  24. I flew a few Bluebird 46's distributed by MFA . Powerful and light . Not very strong though in an arrival as cases were so thin and distrorted or cracked very easily. I still have one as a cut away desk toy I did back in the 90's.
  25. I have in my to do list a "Hastings 1066 Conqueror" a 10cc engine for tethered cars from 1948. Very similar to the Nordec 10cc but much more rare. Unfortunately the contact breakers and mounting plate have been removed and a glowplug fitted to get more power I presume. Pic when I dig it out.
