  1. Pretty much the same here. Its a good facility to have, so I have always used it since it started to appear on Futaba gear many years ago.
  2. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1228757601145381/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A6dff3403-e524-4f3d-b6e9-3ff31d52f166
  3. Frank, have a look on Facebook Marketplace. I have seen several advertised at reasonable prices.
  4. No, sorry. I would worry that it got damaged.
  5. 70mm EDF powered Chris Foss Middle Phase + all servos/ Runs on 4/5s £55.00
  6. Plus various tablets, phones. ipad things, computers etc. Most kids seem to be hooked up to the mains, gazing at their iphone things, oblivious to the outside world.......and traffic. My Grandson was always keen to "come up the club field", until he was 10 years old. Suddenly discovered computers / pizza / coke / warm bedroom etc. End of visits to the patch.
  7. Pretty much the same as we have experienced at swapmeets down ere in sunny Dorzet. What amazes me, is the nearly total shift to electric. Boxes and boxes of engines for a couple of £ each, (Engines which were sought after only a few years ago). Lots of oil soaked airframes, heavy batteries, wheels, servos etc. etc. Virtually no youngsters at all, lots of grey heads only!. The hobby is definitely changing. Models that I would have sold easily a few years ago (well priced), have to be virtually given away to the dwindling pot of potential buyers. Despite our best efforts, hard to recruit new members. The topic was even eluded to in the latest BMFA mag. The hay days are are over IMHO.
  8. I have been asked if I could post a Middle Phase glider from Dorset to Yorkshire. The model is built, so the longest part is the wing. Can anybody advise on the best way to go about this please?.
  9. Luckily, we have a great club hut. The hut has become a magnet for all things aviation, including model flying magazines which once read instead of being binned, are left in the hut. Inevitably I occasionally get to read a few interesting (to me) articles., We have a member who has created an A-Z of RCME free plans going back many years, which is held in a cabinet in the hut. I have to say, that building from plans is a dying art in our club, mainly due to the extortionate price of balsa.
  10. Just a few lines to say what a great read the latest BMFA News is IMHO. I stopped purchasing the modelling magazines years ago, and find that the BMFA News is a great way of keeping up to date with the latest from the various branches of our wonderful hobby. Well done to everybody who puts the magazine together!.
  11. I am in the process of converting a Middle Phase to EDF power. Can anybody point me in the direction of the instructions and / or the c/g please? Its the three channel "advanced trainer" version. Many thx. Simon.
  12. Well done Bonzo, always enjoy your videos. Happy Christmas and I hope Santa brings you something foam shaped!
  13. Can anybody help with the plan for the 109 please?
  14. Thanks, any idea where I can get the plans for the flat plate 109 on the Winter build thread please?
  15. These fatty dog fighters models sound good, can you let me have the link to plans / info please?
  16. Great "FUN" spot landing comp yesterday. Variety of hack models, including my foam board "Thunderbob" which had its maiden at the same time!. Great day, and managed to come third.
  17. Our club membership for 2024 has dropped again overall. We have gained a couple of members, but overall the trend has been down over the last few years, despite our best efforts. To cover our costs, we had to increase our subs by £20 per head, this was before the BMFA increase. Result?. Not one whinge!. OK, we are only a small club these days, but we have a lot of FUN, a great flying patch, warm club hut and shop, and appreciate the myriad of benefits (and hard work), the BMFA provides. The membership are grateful for what we have got......long may it continue!
  18. Great photos, sums it all up well at the moment. Our patch (in sunny Dorset) resembles a paddy field at present!.
  19. I recently purchased a second hand FMS 55" Mustang, which came with a very nice looking 4 blade prop matched to an FMS predator motor. After a bit of refurbishment it was time to test fly. I had read reports that they were underpowered. It flew ok, but not as sprightly as I hoped, so back to balancing blades, re setting throttle esc and even adjusting the esc timing. Result?...........Still fairly gutless. Put all the spec. into e.calc which advised me on a couple of two bladed options. Furnished with new blades and spinner, I ran the motor up and checked everything was ok with the watt meter. In the air? A complete transformation, shorter take off, better throttle response, and generally more "Grunt". Definitely worth the effort!.
  20. First model that sprung to mind was the Super Fly as well, but more like the Yammy.
  21. Brilliant, just love your experiments and "make and mend" attitude. We have our very own Jack Hargreaves on the forum! Looking fwd to seeing that jet fly.
  22. Yes is the answer!. We are modeller.......so anything is possible. I have done some experiments in the past, and it can make a good core, covered in brown paper and strengthened with a carbon rod. I would cut up a few small pieces and try out some different techniques. Worth a try at least!.
  23. Can you give me a call sometime about this please? I sent you a pm with my number, Thx Simon
  24. Nigel Thunderbob was made of the type of foamboard that has a thin paper covering each side. I got it from Amazon, free post.
