  1. Fibreglass suppliers sell acetone, often in 5l tins. Cheap, when I last bought it. BTC
  2. 8 MM coloured circle stickers are ridiculously cheap, 5 colours on a sheet typically so it’s possible to colour match 5 pairs of leads. I suppose they could be annotated with a fine felt tip pen in case the function isn’t self evident. BTC
  3. 2 things helped me. Concentrate utterly on the el stick being a bit forward (most of mine need elevator in a turn more than when upright). Keep leaning on it, it's a lot more comfortable to ease off a bit if it climbs than to start putting loads of down el if it loses height. DON'T be distracted. Second, a decent speed is a lot safer than a slow crawl, 2/3 typically. Same for rolls, I find. BTC
  4. Have used Fluxite for years with no issues but it had no effect on the dodgy wire. BTC
  5. FS, apologies, classifieds in this month’s RCM&E, or is June last month’s? Page 94, £5 for 10. BTC
  6. Funnily enough I’ve just wasted an hour failing to solder two bits of wire together, one a commercial tail wheel wire and the other I suspect an off cut from a threaded pushrod. It was the latter which wouldn’t tin at all despite repeated applications of a file. Reading Martin’s comments above, I suspect the pushrod is an odd alloy or composition. I need to dig out some proper piano wire and hope it’s not Cheesium. BTC
  7. Unrestrained live electric model? Basic safety error. Throttle should have been on skill switch. Sorry if this sounds like Nanny state-ism, but it’s an A Cert fail and showing a trainee bad habits. I see this sort of complacency slowly creeping into my club too despite club rules being quite explicit. I accept that in France things might be done differently. Much is, apparently. C’est la vie, n’est pas? BTC
  8. Thought I saw litho plate on Classifieds recently. BTC
  9. Anyone had experience of these, which are repeatedly advertised on Classifieds at prices which seem reasonable (assuming they get near what's claimed and that's what I'd like to find out)? BTC
  10. Very surprised you had issues with Wera, which I have found to be very reliable. Bondhus T-head are also sturdy. BTC
  11. I hope your new Sullivan clevis tool wasn’t implicated. BTC
  12. Ron and Capt. Kremen, please see private emails. Bruce
  13. Ought to be relatively easy to get the strip rolled then Peter! BTC
  14. A replacement for Prymol would be dead handy. And for Clearcoat too, a good fuelproofer. Prymol, according to my limited knowledge, is/was an etch primer and surely the automotive industry has something equivalent? I was hoping Deluxe would add it to their comprehensive product list. BTC
  15. We too were slightly down on numbers for various reasons, including the Leeds marathon which landlocked much of N Leeds for most of the day with a fortnight’s notice. There was a slight sense of repetition too. nevertheless we had a hoot and a barbie and there’s a definite sense of engagement within the club. Our second fun fly was a fortnight earlier and had similar beneficial effects. Ron’s club is running Wacky Races using my clubmate Terry Anderson’s Hanky Planky. Our Funfly includes spot crashing which really requires an undercart (respect to Crashmore, Paul Crawshaw, who used a glider) and Bomb the Chairman using a strap-on bomb release mechanism so a Hanky isn’t ideal but what about a mass Funfly with basic parameters and the same course of fire throughout? 4 rounds is plenty in a day when numbers reach double figures, unless the barbie becomes a late supper. I will expand on the basic parameters for uniform “scoring” which I have in mind, if there’s any interest. Just don’t take it too seriously. BTC
  16. Or XT 90 anti-spark at 5S and over.
  17. Modelshop Leeds do the same if I ask them nicely (which I always do) often while I wait. BTC
  18. Thank you. The forecast has improved at North Leeds during the day and we are currently expecting a straight westerly which is our optimum direction. Apparently we are at c. 27 flying. BTC
  19. For £7, would you risk that? I’m not a real chemist but I wouldn’t. Get a copy of “Modern Adhesives”. I found it hard to put down. BTC
  20. +1 for Titebond. Super Phatic is great for improving pre-glued ARTF joints, seems to add hardly any weight but as said above, it wicks well. BTC
  21. It looks like Eric’s immediate issues are sorted, but before despondency sets in, the BMFA auctions achieved some quite good prices and some very good prices for certain vintage lots. Only the swap meet rejects really struggled and there were very few unsold lots in either sale. Commission rates are very low too, by industry standards. Two more planned in principle, October and Jan from memory. Obviously, nothing to do with the auctioneer! BTC
  22. My Kavan packed up after about a year, out of warranty of course. It’s still glowering at me in the Mancave, with warranty seals all over the bolt heads and I’ll dismantle it now I’ve been reminded. Nothing to lose. The cheap and cheerful replacement is still going strong after about 5 years. BTC
  23. I abrade the t.e. Of composites and do what Peter does with timber. For hub imbalance I add thick cyano on the light part of the hub. Plenty of destructions on the Web, if I recall the Dubro ones are sensible. Might try spraying composites. I only ever touch the tips if there is patent asymmetry or particular sharpness BTC
