Should have remembered what RTC meant!
-
I recently got an X14 Tx, does anyone know if this one has an RTC battery. I assume this is to hold up the model memory etc. I'm surprised there isn't a better solution to long term memory retention like EEPROM.

Laminating film - buying it and using it.
Andy Stephenson replied to Ron Gray's topic in Modelling Money Savers...
There are special low tack masking tapes. Frog tape yellow is specifically for delicate surfaces. Frog tape Yellow- 219 replies

Let's hope our CAA learn from this otherwise it will happen all over again here.

Who is legally responsible in a model flying club ?
Andy Stephenson replied to Rocker's topic in Incident Reports
The club constitution should use words to the effect that legal liability is vested in the club membership as a whole, rather than making the committee take sole responsibility. All members must sign to abide by the constitution. I have seen rules to this effect in clubs concerning activities other than model flying. Lawyers, please feel free to comment. -
Assuming you have assembled it as per instructions, it should be tightened as much as possible, failing that new fittings are available.

Is this the price of glow plugs?
Andy Stephenson replied to Geoff S's topic in General Vintage R/C Chatter
RC Japan is the supplier of choice for glow plugs. I bought some OS 8s (provably genuine) which came in at £6 each delivered. -
I cast a new canopy from an old one in plaster of paris by extending the old one from the outside with some more canopy material, then blocking up the ends and making a frame for it to sit in while the plaster was setting. I then mounted the master on a vacuum box and vac-formed a new one.

Mine had a Laser 150 up-front which was more than adequate. A 61 2stroke would fly it but it wouldn't do much more.

I recently invested in an X14 for glider flying, I was advised not to upgrade it beyond Ethos version 1.4.17EU because of some problems with v15.

Laser engines - the state of play following their closure
Andy Stephenson replied to Ron Gray's topic in IC Engines
Reports were that the Flyte 150 was simply awful and only lasted a few runs. -
NiMhs and black wire corrosion
Andy Stephenson replied to leccyflyer's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Another likely culprit is the chlorine somehow becoming dissociated from the PCV insulation. -
I used some once but never again, the adhesive/colour layer stays sticky and it's doesn't hide the black surface of laser cut parts at all.

NiMhs and black wire corrosion
Andy Stephenson replied to leccyflyer's topic in Batteries and Chargers
Having kept all my models in a centrally heated workshop over several decades, the problem never arises. I'm convinced it has something to do with moisture. -
The tank is too low and just siphons the fuel back once there is no draw from the carb.

Any antenna that has increased gain also has increased directionality, whether it be vertical or horizontal. Directionality = more signal gain in one direction at the expense of less in another so if you are at the limit of range, turning the antenna, may lose the signal altogether.

NiMhs and black wire corrosion
Andy Stephenson replied to leccyflyer's topic in Batteries and Chargers
It has been blamed on NiCads, when charged they can vent some corrosive electrolyte products through the re-sealable vent under the top cap of the positive end. Another theory I heard is that if the strands of the wire have been plated and not left as bare copper, this can inhibit BWC. More frightenly, I also heard that it has been found in the wiring of some airliners. -
NiMhs and black wire corrosion
Andy Stephenson replied to leccyflyer's topic in Batteries and Chargers
I'm not sure if it matters whether there is an electrical connection or not since moisture alone may be sufficient to make enough of a circuit to allow the reaction to take place.
