  1. The X14 is very new and I am probably the first in the UK to own one. When I bound it to the receiver the power option was not shown on screen.
  2. The claim is not just for the X14 but all the so-called "Twin" Txs, presumably the X18 and X20 as well. I should add that the X20 can be programmed by the user to change the RF power but the X14 can't AFAIK.
  3. My X14 has a CE mark on it, now what that actually means coming from China, who can tell but the importer would be liable if they aren't compliant.
  4. I was recently persuaded to get an FRSky X14 for slope glider use because of the templates available to allow the full flexibility of control under a multitude of conditions, which experienced slopers claim it's very difficult to program conventional radios like my Futaba 14SG. I haven't used it in practice yet but I'm impressed with the bright high-res colour user interface. It transmits a twin signal for ultra security of control, they claim a range up to 10s of km.
  5. If ever find it again I will post a link.
  6. They can, if you need the other materials... https://www.sarikhobbies.com/product-category/materials-mab/wood-finishing-materials/balsa-wood/
  7. I read a report on a test someone did with adding up to 10% water to glow fuel which made little difference to how the engines ran compared to uncontaminated fuel.
  8. WD40 is a good solvent for most sticky adhesives.
  9. Some simulators have a zoom facility when the model gets to a certain distance.
  10. Some of the larger companies do this automatically with no obvious way of opting out.
  11. There's a guy in Australia called Brian Gardner who specialises in replacement piston and liner sets for OS 61 SF and RF engines as they both suffer with the peeling problem. His products are absolutely superbly engineered. They are properly chromed and they come with con-rod fitted and a gasket set. I have two of these sets for my 61RFs after experiencing the problem. He does a run of about 50 or so at a time and he has a waiting list. He also does replacements for 61 FSR and 61VF engines. If you need to revive one of these engines to better than new running order you can get your name on the list at... https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3380853-Making-ABC-piston-liner-rod-pin-sets-for-O-S-61SF-RF-engines-(tally-in-OP)
  12. I know someone who does exactly this for his experimental models. He is, of course, an aerodynamicist with the correct software.
  13. Sony UMatic camcorder batteries had a negative centre pole connector back in the 1980s when they used Cyclon lead acid batteries. Maybe JR thought that was the way to go.
  14. If it was one of these, then it's ridiculously easy to short it out when one of the connectors is connected to a battery. My guess is that it's simply blew something in the battery circuit like a fuse or a diode.
  15. A club mate had a Paper Aviation Easypeze with a fair excess of power and insufficient down-thrust. Without being able to adjust the down-thrust on the field, we mixed in some down elevator with increasing throttle. It was a very unsatisfactory fix because it probably needed a nonlinear mix to match the throttle response. The other problem we noticed was that when a dead-stick landing is mandated, the throttle stick position affected the elevator trim during the glide. The down-thrust was increased for the next outing and it transformed the flying characteristics.
  16. Looks like a pile of old junk to me, it would be worth several hundred on a BMFA auction.
  17. All I wanted is a download of the card as I can't see the need to pay for one, we never did when they sent them out on renewal. Thanks to DickW, it's done now all I have to do is laminate it.
  18. Can someone remind me how to download my BMFA membership card as I want to print it out. All I get on the BMFA website is this below... I don't have anything Apple or a Google account so it seems there is no option to simply download it to a PC.
  19. My Low Jim was fitted with an HP61 to start with so I had to add lead shot to the tail to get it to balance. On the first flight the trouble was that it had tail flutter which cracked the fuz and let all the lead shot dribble out. The result was a plane with full up elevator was descending into a muddy field, fortunately not much damage was the result. Later I fitted an OS 61RF and pipe, it would do the most enormous loops with that combination.
  20. Rod, May be I remembered incorrectly because it was over 40 years ago. Low Jim sounds right, now you mention it. It was picked up at a club meeting for the princely sum of 15 quid in an unlabelled box.
  21. In the late 70s I picked up a kit of something which was described as a Jim Davis Slim Jim which was a low-wing aerobatic model with a semi-symetrical wing section. It came with a jig-built fuselage and was about 40 size so I fitted it with an HP61.
  22. 4mm wire which is 8 gauge may be a bit heavier than you need for such a light model, I would go with 10 gauge.
  23. We had a Calmato as a club trainer that had Thunder Tiger 56 which was a little too much for a trainer.
  24. Jonathan, A similar model to the Galahad but more scale looking. I recommend a fuselage wire mounted U/C with a cross-over style torson set-up, as used on most Boddington designs.
