David Ashby - Moderator
Mr Muscle Kitchen spray works for me, nice smell too! David.
winchweight
Mr Muscle Orange floor wipes, followed by Windolene wipes to restore a smear free shine. They do lift the colour off some coverings though. Apparently Fairy Power Spray is good too.

Peter Miller
Like David, The best is Mr Muscle Kitchen Cleaner. Even removes old, congealed castor oil.Sorry but I doubt if it will remove burn marks after a Lipo cathes fire.
Malcolm Fisher
A wipe over with a rag soaked in Methylated Spirit works very well, and I have resorted to spraying the stuff from an empty window cleaning spray bottle refilled with meths followed by a wipe down with either paper towels or cotton rags. 001
For many years for cleaning exhaust residue etc. off models I have used glass/window cleaner, the clear blue or green stuff that comes in a pistol spray, Mr. Muscle or the supermarket's own brand. This can also be used during model construction on bare balsa sheet when bending it, to soften it, it seems to contain the right amount of ammonia to do the job. Allan Jordan
Hi Richard, As I am about to bend some balsa I will give a try and let you know how I get on.Many Thanks, Allan J ...TTFN
Andy Green
I use fairy liquid in a plant type pistol spray, works ok. I've heard that baby wipes work well working on the principle of what the wipes normally have to deal with, a small spash of fuel residue should cause them no problems.Andy
Stephen Bowen
I use mr muscle window cleaner and cotton rags used to use paper towels but went through so many i started buying cotton rags in bulk from here http://www.lmb-supplies.co.uk/ last for ages and i can wash them. Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
I use a very concentrated mixture of windscreen washing fluid....like about 50%. The water shifts the mud & the washer fluid tackles the grease......
Craig Spence
BABY WIPES. By far the best, does no harm to covering and leaves it looking brand new.Plus if you have kids at home like me there readily available, the wife just thinks she looses them lol.I even use them to clean the shiny parts of my engines, works a treat on my 4 strokes just a need a toothbrush for the hard to reach spaces, also use the wifes brush for this lol!. Only kidding.
Lindsay Todd
WD40 also works well
Craig Spence
WD40 is an excellent cleaner, I use it at work for all sorts. Never used it on the plane though apart from engine, might give it a go for some stubborn stains.
Alan Cantwell
i always used a fairy liquid spray, but was introduced to baby wipes, never looked back!!!

Peter Jenkins
Baby wipes every time. Cheap and convenient. Mind you, I do wonder what they do to the posterior of babies if they are so good at cleaning off glow fuel exhaust!
Craig Spence
I use baby wipes on planes and engines religiously. It's funny what Peter just said about what they do to babies, my eldest was fine with them but my youngest broke out in a rash when we used them so they must have some harsher substances in them. Spice Cat
My advice is; don't ask the wife to do it as part of her God given tasks. She offered to put my Cub in the washing machine....
Simon B
Has anyone here had a lipo fire under normal, sensible use? I've put models into the ground nose first, dented the lipo and, while it won't ever charge to the same rate again, it didn't catch fire. I also usually charge mine at a lower than recommended rate (so 1.5c rather than 2c, 3c rather than 5c etc). I do wonder about the problems some people have had. Tim Mackey
Thats a bit off topic for this thread Simon.
Vecchio Austriaco
There is one thing I miss in this thread -if you want your plane nice and shiny it is not only important which liquid cleaner you use but also the kind of rag. Make a first go with paper kitchen towel to get the real oily stuff away- but for a second cleaning use a micro fibre cloth. They work really well - and leave a clean surface. You can wash them at 60 deg - may be not with your best shirts - and without any softener.
