David Molineux
Wow, that looks fantastic, congratulations. I am definitely going to build the larger edf version. Can't quite stretch to a turbine.
will -0
Given the single engine exhaust configuration you've got going on there, how about calling it an Avro 707/710? Edited By will -0 on 03/06/2013 14:59:
Tony Nijhuis
Now thats different Will ! I have made up a circular shroud so the tail pipe isnt as noticable. Now need to crack on with the 76" and 49" versions
Keith Simmons
That's really lovely. I was looking at having twin Wren 44 turbines instead of a single Wren 80, but was surprised that an 80 is actually cheaper then the 44 !!!. Is this easier to fly than the Vampire? Steve Houghton 1
I'd love a 48" PSS version Steve A470Soaring.blogspot.com
Piers Bowlan
I would like to scale it down for a single Wren 44 but to what scale? What would be the desired span and the estimated weight of the scaled down model? It would make it easier to transport too! Tony Nijhuis
As the Vuncan is a delta, its incredably easiy to fly...slow, high aspect and no stall. The wing load has come out to 18oz/sq foot so imgine with that how slow she will fly! The 76" mid range version could be adapted to suited to a wren 44....keep it to the 15lbs mark and she will go a treat...
Keith Simmons
Hi Tony. Can you confirm it's the 76" span and not 78" as at the beginning of this thread? perhaps the design got slightly smaller. Thanks.
Gavin Mack
Are the Vulcans going to be at the gmac/rcme fun fly?
Tony Nijhuis
Slip of keyboard.......defo 78" and not 76" RCME have twisted my arm to attend the gmac this year (didnt need to really as this year the date dose'nt clash with Wings & Wheels)..... Plan is to bring at least one up and that may be the turbine powered one

Tony Nijhuis
Yes.....Be in the SLEC tent as normal but not programmed in to fly this year
Tony Nijhuis
Yet more testing but in full war paint and ligting to boot.... She flies superbly, almost viceless, but landings can be a little trick in strong winds....at 98" weighing in at 24lbs and only 20oz per sq foot I guess its not surprising!!!! a real floater All lights on!! I just love this last photo......full power into a grey cloudy 'cold war' sky
Craig Carr
Hi tony, Looks superb, excellent well done. What did you use for the lighting system and afterburner? They are very effective. BizJet Tech
BEAUTY!!!! but, Vulcan didn't have Reheat (Afterburning to the Yanks) though it IS impressive lovely job.
Piers Bowlan
Looks wonderful Tony. Will you be flying it at The Hastings MFC Autumn Fly-in, 25-29 September or is it still at the testing stage? Looking forward to the plans becoming available - hopefully before not too long. David Molineux
WOW! I have been watching keenly since you first said you were designing Vulcans and I must say that it certainly doesn't disappoint. I can't wait to see the other two designs (really interested in the larger EDF one ). There is nothing I want to build more (Except maybe a Fairchild A10.....) I imagine you are going to have a major hit on your hands with these.
simon burch
That is just amazing..............any ideas when it will be available?
Tony Nijhuis
Thanks guys..... Will be flying the model at Hastings this comming weekend so praying for light winds...... Although the full size Vulcan didnt have reheat, the engine on full burn were known to give a tinge of colour out the exhausts..... There's no doubt that this model is a real joy to fly and so easy.......What is a little more tricky is the landing aproach and bleeding the collect amount of speed off which, if you dont have scale airbrakes, you have to do by increasing the angle of attack. Too much and she will air brake very quickly, not enough and she'll float on fast and you risk the chance of bounce when the wheels touch down......and as i found to my cost 3 weeks ago, she bounced a number of times and flicked on to her back!!! Reading up on detas, and it appaers the full size were just as tricky......apparently deta wing are only good for supersonic flight and not much else!!!.....untill you put cannards in with it!....ie the eurofighter. Just need more practice I guess
Concorde Speedbird
That last photo is superb, what a photo. Although the reheat lights aren't scale they do look good! Now how about some LIghtning escorts and Victor tankers! CS
