Peter Miller
I think that it is a bit sleeker than Toot Sweet!!! But thanks for the compliment
Owdlad
It's a CPLR design... multi times F3a World Champion. I must say I'm very impressed with the model, it's very pure in flight. Its a pity the kit isn't widely available as it would be a top seller. It just goes to show that the smaller specialist dealers have some excellent models that differ from the norm
David Ashby - Moderator
The CPLR stuff has an impeccable pedigree, needs a spinner though
Owdlad
Spinner is now fitted. We were conducting some prop tests to determine which worked the best so opted to leave the spinner cone off On the bench we conducted some power tests to see what the motor was pulling. The original set up was 6s Lipo turning a apc17x10e @ 80A static. During these tests using packs of 4s 5s 6s and a selection of props we found that using 5s pack turning apc17x12e @ 63A gave simular thrust as the original set up. Prop test on the day proved this to be correct. Vented cone is now fitted Edited By Owdlad on 01/08/2016 20:49:
David Pearce 4
Not a new model but one that’s been given a makeover. This balsa electric WOT4E MK II got me back into the hobby three years ago. It’s given me 326 flights (yes I log them) on the recommended 3S setup. Like all Wot4s it flies well but this version suffers from needing a lot of nose weight and that gives short flight times on a 2200 3S, in my case 5 minutes max. So having taken advice on this forum I fitted a HK SK3-4240-740Kv and a 4S 3200Mah lipo, it now balances without any additional weight. I also chose to strip off all the old covering and recover. Not an easy task I discovered. I wanted something that showed up well and was a little different. The red and gray is HK covering and as I needed to paint the cowl I also pained the undercarriage white and gave it some new chrome wheels. White trim lines and my own printed decals complete. I’m lucky in that my last 20 years at work included using graphics software and so I put my knowledge to use and drew the decals in CorelDraw. They are printed on waterslide decal paper and varnished with artist gloss varnish. I'm reasonably pleased and time will tell how durable they are. The maiden flights proved that throws had to be reduced with the increased speed but duration was doubled to 10 minutes. It’s now flying well so maybe I can get another 326 flights out of it. David Pearce 4
Posted by David Davis on 12/08/2016 11:11:04: Superb job David! Â Thank you David, nice of you to say that. (Just spotted an error, she's flown 236 flights not 326.) Cheers, David

Peter Miller
Vickers Varsity or Valetta. Had some experience on the former. Chopped one of the latter up for scrap in Aden

Peter Miller
Well We had our own on Master Diversion flight at St Mawgan and lots at the Air navigation school at Stradishall.
Colin Leighfield
That is the last type flown at RAF Lichfield (Fradley) until its' closure for flying in 1958. It was because of the completion of a concentrated programme, training navigators for the V-Bomber force. That was the end of an operational history associated with Vickers twins following its' role as an OTU operating Wellingtons through WW2 from 1941. Great choice Tony and one you don't see too often. It should fly just like a Wellington with the added advantage of a tricycle undercarriage!
John H. Rood
First flying machine I've finished in ages! Long overdue for me to get back in the swing of things. I'm building an A-4 Skyhawk for the 2016 PSSA UK Mass Build event, and this little "Alula TREK" already is helping me shake off the rust, dust and crust from many, many years away from the fray. Too, I'm happy to report that my 10 year old radio transmitter and receiver are working fine with the new servos and batteries I bought with this innovative, deceptively precision "almost ready to glide" kit. This glider is an Alula TREK, designed by Michael Richter and produced by his forward-thinking company Dream-Flight in Goleta, California. www.dream-flight.com #alulatrek #slopesoaring #dreamflightrc

Terry Walters
Great choice Tony. We had two ATC camps at RAF Topcliffe and had 4 and 6 hour flights in the navigational training Varsities. Fantastic - all up the East coast - Edinburgh, Aberdeen out to Sumburgh out over the Atlantic, back down to Belfast and return to Topcliffe. Small white 'picnic' boxes with cold meat pie , sandwiches , chocolate and an apple. Soup and coffee out of the huge thermos flasks. Laying down at the bomb aimer's window and map reading all the way not to mention the obligatory go in the co-pilot's seat! Happy days........... Peter Miller
Stradishall was still using them in 1967 when I left the RAF. Our Station Flight Varsity used to make regular trips to Gibraltar , a six hour flog each way. I went on one of those trips, One of the nicer aircraft to work on as there was more room. We also changed the inner mainplanes on the AOC's Valletta in Germany. They had polished the wing skins so much that they were too thin. WE did not polish the new ones and I hate to think of how much work the AOC's ground crew had to do to get them up to standard. Stuphedd
Not sure about my memory but mid to late 50s "us cadets " did a bomb dropping exercise using the Varsity and smoke emiting bombs off the west coast of Wales somewhere . I have recollection of one being dropped on the land and seeing sheep running !! and yes , magical times . pete
Pete B
Feel free to start an 'All Our Yesterdays' thread elsewhere, folks - this one's for showcasing new builds.... Pete
Andrew Price 2
Now you've done it Pete!! I was going to tell the world about my ATC flights in the AOC Valletta out of Bovingdon OR my Varsity flight form my Marham camp. Pity really. Pete B
Don't let me stop you. Andrew! There's a thread of ATC yarns over here to which you can add yours, or start another if you wish. I might even mention the Sea Prince flight I didn't get at Lossie in about 1968..... Pete
Peter Miller
I feel that we would be losing something by not having these comments here. After all, how many people spotted that it was a Varsity? Those that didn't need to know about the aircraft but would they go searching on other threads just in case there was some more information somewhere else? After all, how many tines do we hear people say. "I wish I had asked Dad about that " or "Grandad never talked about it when he was alive"
Pete B
I'm not suggesting no comment can be made on here - it all adds to the colour and interest - but if you want to deepen the discussion or drift away from the thread topic, it's better to start a new thread. It's not a difficult concept to grasp, really..... Pete
Andrew Price 2
btw. Pete. Just to be sure, I have no axe to grind re your suggestion, which is right on the mark. I do however insist that, should you tell of your missed Sea Prince jolly, I reserve the right to tell of my (twice) missed Meteor flight and also the Lincoln from Marham - around most of Terrys route.
Peter Miller
And I might tell (again) of my actual Meteor flight, Lancaster flights etc. etc.
