Lee Smalley
cheers guys nice to hear those comments, you always hope people will like her as much as you do, so it is good to know i seem to have done a good job well the wingspan is 81" i checked the website as i said i have lost the manual, not surprising as i have had it for 2 years! the weight has come out a bit more than i would have liked, there is almost 2.5lbs of lead attached to beam mounting lugs of the engine, do remember it is only sport scale as i have not gone all Fenton on it and recreated each rivet but i have done enough to satisfy myself, i have left stuff off like lights, refueling cap etc, but as far as i am concerned it is enough, i had to draw the line somewhere !! i am hoping to carry out taxi trails after the Nats and then when the next good day arrives get her in the air! i will have a photographer with me as well so you will get pictures !! Lee Smalley
well it was maiden day today.........and it all ended in tears....good ones though !! i can report back everything went well she is smooth and very well behaved glad i did not put any down elevator mix in with flap as Mr Redshaw told me not to do, no trim change, full flap just slows here up very impressed some of the lads took some in flight photos and i will try to get them as soon, first two landings ended up with a gentle nod onto her nose with the third being a nice three pointer just about held with the elevator, great model!! well chuffed

Tim Hooper
Well done Lee! Your Spit looks beautiful (despite the hidden servos......), and really does you credit. tim
Brent
I have to be honest I have had my eye on this kit for a while. It certainly does look nice and you have done a fantastic job with the detail. Its in the next kit to buy list after iv bought the mini jazz kit and started and finished the 1/4 scale cub scratch build. I think if I drop on some spare cash I will definitely plunge in and get the kit and put it on the shelf and that way I can keep getting the parts here and there till I have everything for it. Glad the maiden went well

Ross Clarkson
Superb model, glad the maiden went well. Can't imagine how a maiden like that feels. It's bad enough for me after putting a RTF model together. Brilliant, congrats.
Lee Smalley
thanks guys, i will be honest, i was smiling like a loon for about an hour or two, Reg was bang on with the flap trim, none required!!! i managed to bend one of the cannons (plastic sealant gun tips) so i will have to make another and the wheel covers need shortening, despite her weight she will fly stupidly slowly and so i will have to reduce my landing speed a tad, it was weird really i was not nervous at all, i probably should have been but i was not, very strange, i remember flying her around and she looked incredible in the air (even better than most spittys thanks to that camo) i remember thinking to myself wow i wish i had something like that !!!!!!!!! oh hang on a min !! i will try and get hold of the club member with the pictures in flight and get some on here as soon as i can. Lee still grinning like a fool
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
What a beautiful Spit Lee - like most scale models, it looks like it has been a real labour of love and the end result is stunning! Best wishes for the maiden, it's always a scary prospect after all that hard work. Hope everything goes well Wendy
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Sounds like the maiden went fantastically well - very glad to hear it! After all that time spent building, enjoy the flying! Is there another project waiting in the wings .....
Martyn K
Just got back from my jollies. Nice work Lee, that looks absolutely lovely. Well done. Martyn
Colin Leighfield
I would love to build and fly something as good as that, not sure that I'll ever get that far. I think the desert camouflage looks wonderful and the deep nose for the Vokes' air filter makes it easier to hide the engine. I've always fancied a Spitfire in US markings, maybe a MkVIII in similar desert finish or a PRXI, which has a deeper nose for the enlarged oil tank. The flap angle on the full-size is 86 degrees from memory. The prototype K5054 originally had 64, but it used to float so they increased it. Well done Lee. Jamie sawyer
Hi Lee, you should be very proud of what you have achived. Its a magnificent aircraft. Do you have a build thread on it ?? Jamie
Lee Smalley
many thanks for the comments guys and girls, sorry jamie i did not do a build thread on her as it took me nearly 2 years to finish her (other stuff got in the way, it would have been the worlds most drawn out build thread ever!!! wendy do you do a full length 1/5th scale pilot ..mine is not the best!! Jamie sawyer
Where did you get the UC from Lee. Seriously considering a spit which would please my old man !!! Thats why I was asking about a build thread lol Top job Jamie
Wendy (Perfect-Pilots)
Lee, regarding the pilot, although I specialise in the larger articulated scale pilots (1/3 and ¼ scale), I do make a 1/5 scale full body pilot, which is fully moulded, and I think he is suitable for the Spit. I’m not able to see from your photos whether my pilot is more detailed than the one you have in the Spit at the moment. If you are interested, I can offer him at a discounted price (painted or unpainted) - please email me at [email protected] and we can chat about it further. You can also see more details here www.perfect-pilots.co.uk Thanks Wendy
Chris Freeman 3
Hi Lee Love the colours of your Spitfire, really nicely done. Spitfires are not bad flying aircraft and once you get past their reputation, you love them. I have just recently test flown my 1/6 scale Spitfire that still has to be painted as I was worried that my wings were too thin on the leading edge at the tips and was also concerned as it is electric and needed to see what the power was like. Flew very well and lands nice and slowly with flaps. I cut my own foam wings and made my own fiberglass fuselage for this project.
