Andy Loges
I am to visit my Dad who has retired over in France... he belongs to very nice little flying club over there where I have been invited to go have a fly. So my question is does anyone know if you are allowed to take your transmitter in hand luggage? I have a 2.4 Futaba with Lipo battery and I am flying Ryan Air. Peter Miller
Don't tell Ryanair. They will probably invent a £1000 extra fee for it!!!
Bob Rowland
Just back from Corfu - have been over there twice a year for the past 4 or 5 years, with absolutely no problems at all. You may need to take it out of it carry case - but that's all
Ernie
Hi,Andy, remember that most French flyers use throttle right, ernie
Paul Marsh
don't you have to alter the output to 10mw, as in France, futaba have a setting for changing the power output to comply over there?
Phil Green
The 'France' switch in a Futaba doesnt alter the power, it restricts band usage to certain channels. Remember to tell the BMFA of your trip Andy so your insurance cover continues over there.
John Privett
Posted by Paul Marsh on 20/09/2015 09:34:32: don't you have to alter the output to 10mw, as in France, futaba have a setting for changing the power output to comply over there? Not any more, Paul. It used to be the case that about half of the 2.4 band could be used at "full" power, but when used outdoors the other half could only be used at the lower power output of 10mW. Hence the "France" switch which, as Phil said, just stops the radio using the low power part of the band. This is all academic now though, as the restriction was dropped a year or two ago. John Privett
Andy - there was another thread on here about flying in France that you might want to have a look at in case anything on it is relevant. The thread finishes just before the 2.4 GHz restriction mentioned above was officially removed.
Don Fry
The only advice I can give about flying in France is just be a bit more self aware regarding your safety. There is not the same culture of safety in the French clubs I have seen, when compared to British clubs, for one reason and another.
Eamonn Fahey
Andy, as Bob says above, there is no problem bringing a Tx with you on board. I regularly travel to Spain with Aer Lingus & Ryanair with my Tx. and have to take it out of it's case and place it in a tray for inspection by preflight security. If you treat it like a Laptop Computer you will not have any problems. Enjoy your time in France. Eamonn.
KingKade
Likewise, i have travelled with ryanair regularly, no issues with tx in hand luggage! MattyB
TX will be fine, but according to Ryanair's rules you may get asked to pack and protect the lipo separately if you declare it...
