john stones 1 - Moderator
Cockpit from F1 - F5 on mine, I've tilted F5 so it takes on and off easier, probably a dowel to retain at front and who knows at other end John
Chris Barlow
Love the jig John! Everything in there but the kitchen sink. Good point about tilting F5 too. will make the canopy a much better and easier fit for electrics.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Yep, means you can have a laid back pilot as well. I put a 1/8 stringer down the lower fuzz, not needed, when the cross sheeting is added the fuzz is rock solid, I used a bit of firmish stuff for this. Chris Barlow
For some reason that's the part I don't enjoy doing. I don't know why, maybe because it's tedious or non rewarding or just not challenging for me? Doesn't take long either and uses up the scrap balsa which makes it even more strange! Getting closer to those stringers now though. That's a more rewarding bit!
Bob Cotsford
John, I've gone for a 1/8*1/4 soft longeron on the rear, mainly so that I can radius the bottom edge - it'll show the dings up less from past experience. Not that I can be clumsy or anything...
john stones 1 - Moderator
Been tinkering with a canopy design, here's what I come up with, shout up if you've ideas. I glued a thin ply face to F5, i'll have a dowel/ply tongue going in there, I used lite ply cross grain for the base, sits better that way, then a couple of formers glued in with a spar across, rear former I built up for looks and to stiffen, leave it to dry now and sheet tomorrow. Here's Svetlana my pilot. John

AVC
I like your arrengements for the cockpit, but with that pilot you'll need to move the instruments panel a bit forward... 😉

john stones 1 - Moderator
Frame all dry so I removed from the fuzz, I soaked a piece of 1/8 balsa for 1/2 hour then taped to a tube overnight. You can see it's not full depth, I left it short so the additional balsa will form the cockpit sides., and the curve up the rear former. Pin this down then glue and leave to dry. Chris Barlow
Very similar to Barnstormer colours. Very nice on a Tiggie! What are you planning to use where?
