dirk tinck
Next days i'm cleaning the edges so i can try to remove the parting boards .The second mould will be made up partly against the flanges of the first one. If the epoxy is not hard enough to sand with a disq grinder , i'm starting the hatch moulds , stay tuned !!
dirk tinck
Hi al! As i expected , the epoxy of the fuse mould was not hard enough to cut with a disc .Time to start the nose hatch (first half ) and the second half of the nose cone mould. After 5 times waxing and a layer of pva , i covered the plugs with moulding resin. After an hour curing i added a layer of 100gr glass and 5 layers of 200 gr. Not the best pic's but i'm running out of space with the fuse on the bench !
dirk tinck
HI all ! Tonight i made the first half of the motor hatch mould as i prepped it together with the nose cone and the nose hatch. There was some time left and i couldn't resist to open up the nose cone mould : beautyfull ! As a reminder of what we are building here : the PSS version ready to be launched off the great Orme . I think it's 2019 here . In this month's RCM&E. x

dirk tinck
Hi again ! While the motorhatch is curing i prepared the second half of the nose hatch . That means carefully take out the parting board that seperates the two halves. After waxing and pva , this part is also ready to be laminated with glass and epoxy. A few hours later ... After 48 hours of curing i can clean this set of moulds up and prepair it for the front and rear mould piece. Tomorrow i'll do the second half of the motor hatch. This was prepaired this evening (waxing and pva )

dirk tinck
Hi all The second half of the motor hatch was laminated today , as planned. I also cleaned -up one side of the nose hatch and removed the parting board. It was screwed against the plug and the gap was filled with plasticine to avoid the resin getting between plug and parting boards. After a clean-up , the side mould can be formed on this surface. The holes of the screws will be filled with plasticine to prevent the resin going in there. It would make demoulding very hard ! Before going on with the clean-up i will drill and bolt the two half moulds together (forgot it! ) More tomorrow ! x

dirk tinck
A little mistake slipped in :it's not the nose hatch , but the motor hatch in the video?
dirk tinck
Hi all ! Yesterday i removed the second parting board of the motor hatch (after cleaning up the edges )so i could prepare it to mould. You can clearly see the rests of the plasticine. It has to prevent the resin creeping between plug and parting boards. It did a good job here !! After a clean up , filling the holes , 5 times waxing , and a coat of pva (release agent ), the hatch moulds are ready to get their side cover. (one side ) The little gap , next to the left bolt hole , is no fault . I just need aprox. 1cm of the vertical part of the hatch so no worries ! That was the job for today ,a quicky ! finally an early night ! Tomorrow i will bolt the sides to the center mould pieces and do this all over again for the opposite side. That will finish the hatch moulds... finally !!
dirk tinck
Just to make clear , i'm going to use just 1cm of the vertical sides of the hatches x x x
dirk tinck
Hi all ! The opposite was done the same way so this completes the moulding of the hatches. After curing , i cleaned up every edge and opened-up the mould without any issues. x x x x x x
dirk tinck
Bolted back together to make the hatches , it looks like this: The nose hatch will be made in two halves because i can't reach the corners when the they are bolted together. The two halves will be joined after. The panel-lines and dummy screws were transfered very well ! The seam where the two halves meet ,will be practically invisible. All cleaned up and ready to roll ! Good night all !!
Stephen Jones
Well you have some balls. Lots of chrome balls. ........... A lot of my projects get left to one side gathering dust. I don't know how you keep motivated. Steve
dirk tinck
before making the hatches and nose cone , i will make the rest of the fuselage moulds. I allready cleaned up the seperation between first and second mould and started the second one. This is the exhaust area wich will be a seperate mould for secure demoulding I know it looks a bit dodgy but there's no other way to follow the complicated fuse lines. In fact , this is the hardest part of the build so far And the bottom fin :
dirk tinck
Hi Stephen ! It's getting harder and harder to find the courage to go on but i have started it , and i will finish her , no matter what ! It will go better once i have a fuselage and a pair of wings , just a couple of weeks now ! Keep the comments going guys , it gives me the ''group''feeling ! I'll make a promise to all of you : I WILL fly her in the UK , as soon as she's ready ! You just give me a nice field ?.

dirk tinck
Hi all ! With all the parting boards in place , it's time to clean the plug with a wet cloth to remove the rests of pva i used to protect the plug. After that , ,it's waxing time ! followed by a thin layer of pva , moulding resin and 6 layers of glas and epoxy. easyer said than done !! A good ten hours later , the second quarter of the fuse is a fact !It's 3.30 in the morning BTW... At the current themperatures , i could clean uo the edge of the front parting board , the next day. Pic's later ...
dirk tinck
Hi all ! To start the next part (front section ) , i first need to remove the parting board that borders on that part. This uncovers the upstanding side of the first two parts of the fuselage moulds .This upstanding part will serve as a parting board for the next mould . The marbel imprints are still filled in the left mould because i tried some plastic half spheres instead of metal balls. Just need to remove them to see if they are up to the job... The time left was used to make the parting boards for the nose hatch opening. The gaps between the plug and parting boards will be filled with plasticine for sharp edges. I hope this clears some questions ? If not :shoot!! x
