Erfolg
Does any one recognise what this is other than a cap. I think I know what it is and who it belonged to. Although if it is what I think it is, i do not know why I have it.

fly boy3
It's a RAF officers cap and badge from the seventies. Badge currently available on EBay, so must have been a good few around. Cheers
Don Fry
Captains cap, more wear on the right side, stuffed down between the left seat, and the port fuselage side.
Erfolg
I thought it was a pilots hat from WW2, I think I know who it belonged to.>> Being completely honest I have no real idea why I have it.>> It is the suggestion that it is from the seventies that still provides some doubt.>>
Martin Harris - Moderator
From this info, it looks to be more likely WW2 or immediately post war. It ties in with a similar example (different maker) from the IWM. I believe the badge identifies it as pre-QE2...
Peter Jenkins
I don't think Battersby were still making RAF Officers hats in 1969. Bates, Alkit, Burton (I think) and one other, whose name escapes me, were the only suppliers then AFAIK.
Daithi O Buitigh
We used to refer to that style of crown as 'King's' and the current as 'Queen's'. Correcty, the older style was 'Imperial' which would put it before 1947/48. When I was an erk back in the early 60s, I had been issued with the current stye of cap badge, but I had my late father's badge (old style) which I wore instead (and never got pulled on it). The crown design was also on the brass buttons on the best blues and changed at the same time as the cap badge
Erfolg
Is it identifiable as a pilots cap. I am also guessing it was part of a dress uniform?
Denis Watkins
I was waiting for the experts to comment Erf, before being shot down But it is an RAF Officers Dress Cap from WW2 The only problem is that these were usually stored for " Best " But yours looks well used, maybe after the original ownership
