EarlyBird
Apple cheek balsa and carving started. There is a lot of balsa to remove and I am hoping that I don't end up sanding fresh air Cheers Steve
Fun Flyer
It's starting to look more like a Fournier all the time.
EarlyBird
A bit of a mess but I will sort it out. I am starting to see my way forward on this and will add the cheeks on the other side before carving the whole thing at once. This could take some time! EarlyBird
As promised both sides now have cheeks. and the carving has started. Interesting for me but the shape probably will not pass scale scrutiny. I would like perfect but will settle for TLAR. It's all good practice for the next build, that's the way I look at it. Geoff S
I find carving a lumps of glued together soft balsa one of the most satisfying parts of building. I know some hate it, but I find it's like being a sculptor Suddenly all the joins become almost undetectable and the surface becomes soft and smooth to the touch. One thing I'd advise is to remove as much as possible with a knife(scalpel) or plane to keep the dust minimal and I suppose wearing a mask is advisable but I'm a bit remiss in that way. It'll look great, Steve and TLAR is the right thing to aim for. Geoff

Fun Flyer
I hollowed out the cheeks to provide some cooling for the motor.

EarlyBird
Started shaping the bottom of the cowl. Bottom left needs more work as does top right. I have researched the shape by looking at pictures of the full size. Unfortunately the size and position of the motor prevents the correct taper being achieved, so I will make a nice shape and be happy with it. Trevor
It seems that thread subscriptions were not carried over to the new platform. As far as I can see, we need to click on the word 'follow' in the thread title panel and set up notifications from there. It's going to take a while to get the hang of this! EarlyBird
I am giving up with the cowl and moving on. Next on the list is wing fairings, but how to do?. Bit of research coming up. Cheers ? Steve
EarlyBird
This is how Peter did it. I am going to have to study this in close detail. ? Cheers ? Steve
Fun Flyer
The cowl looks fine EB. I couldn't master Peter's method for the fairings so I resorted to foam and filler. Looks fine from a distance. I put some pictures on my original thread.
EarlyBird
Thanks FF I will search for "my rf4" did not work because all words are less than 4 characters which is a known issue at this present time. EarlyBird
First fit the wings to the fuselage, now where did I put them? Ok found them. First finish the wings then fit then to the fuselage. Cut the balsa triangles and 1/32 ply, I don't have 1/64th. That's a start. I'll be back when I have some progress to report. Cheers ?
