EarlyBird
Progress? Yes but slow. But I keep plodding on and every step brings me closer to the flight line. Cheers ?
EarlyBird
Progress yes! Wings meet fuselage for the first time. This feels like a giant leap forward. But they don't fit ? It looks like the false leading edge needs trimming flat to take out the angle of the swept wing. Is this to be expected?
Fun Flyer
It seems like a long time ago, but I think I had to do some trimming to get everything to fit.
EarlyBird
Thanks FF, Getting there I am going to have to do better than this. I just need to work out what and were to trim.
EarlyBird
A few iterations later. Fit sand fit sand ...... That's near enough for me. Now I can fit the flairs ( the fancy bits to blend the fuselage into the wing). Another good day here in North Lincolnshire. ?

Trevor
One of the reasons I like to build wings first is so that the fuselage sides (and doublers) can be offered up to the wing before fuselage construction starts. There’s always a bit of fettling needed later on, but it’s good to know that the wing is going to fit reasonably well.

I looks like you have used 1/64 ply on top. I was wondering if I could use 1/16 balsa or would 1/32 ply be better?
Peter Miller
I found this at last. 1/32 ply would be too stiff. 1/16 balsa will do. Now how do I get notifications when someoneposts on the thread!!!!????

EarlyBird
To fit the wing root fairing I had to fit the wing bolts and this happened. ? Nipped it up nicely. Next fit the wing root fairings. I'll be back...
EarlyBird
After days of shaping and sanding I have started the fairings. ? This is the first time I double clicked the picture to bring up the dialogue box and reduce it's size.
Fun Flyer
Coming on well EB. I have a Hobby Eagle stabiliser staring at me from the shelf and I'm thinking of installing it in the RF4. The Devil, idle hands and all that.
EarlyBird
Stabiliser! do I need one? Oh yes but we call it a tailplane and, not to forget the other one, a fin. ? This is a tricky bit. Just dry fit. That's not strictly correct as I have wet the balsa to bend it into shape. I will leave it overnight and glue it tomorrow probably in two or three stages starting with the left triangle, allow to dry, then the right triangle. It's good to get back to cutting and gluing after all the sanding I have done recently. Cheers ?
EarlyBird
Progress on the first fairing. and the second. I added a filet and filed it concave, as I did on the first. Cheers
EarlyBird
Fitted and glued. A bit of sanding will improve the look. What's left on the to do list before covering? Tail skid and sheeting the fuselage bottom in front of the wings. Then final sanding ☹️ This end is in sight and the flight line beckons. I am sure I can finish this by the end of lockdown. ? We will see, there is no rush. Cheers
