Frank Skilbeck
Anybody used the SLEC 1/4 turn hatch catches, need a secure hatch catch for my flying boat where the hatch is just in front of the propeller. Don't want to use the spring type hatches as the slot would let in some water, we did make a quarter turn one that pushed to locating pins out, but it came loose on the last flight and the hatch went through the prop, fortunately on a take off run not when it was in the air! The SLEC 1/4 turn ones https://www.rcworld.co.uk/acatalog/SLEC-Hatch-Catch-Pk2-SL004.html look like they would be ideal, but not if the hatch is easy to pull off without turning the screws. Shaun Walsh
How about DZUS 1/4 turn fasteners? metal rather than plastic and probably more robust. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195454900221?hash=item2d820517fd:g:H1YAAOSwdQZk9f47&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwHTvZ0l1pLoP1oPbRIPBETXT3QBvIz78E0qfOS6ymg9NvPg3mDkk%2BUcbpGIseIHET7Lfm1qO%2F72B0RQhY%2BxtKIezZ9VcHsJwaV4tbH%2FuRcC3QbYhH5JRcBNTWb%2F2ElIHObkga8PLH5%2BaM25JTbIeRzUAhxknVQmIAUKNcbEzHe2Fg%2BF1i7Fxt3z7R8SoS5Afl76m6cOzAGV7nRAAfDDXvQINq%2FkFRdeUPvv%2BGPF6CaHErp4XVhcSdedqETOyGzxgAw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-630PrPYg
Chris Walby
Or just a Nylon screw, less likely to come loose and go through the prop.

That's the 2nd option, but if I need to get at the battery quickly I was thinking the 1/4 turn would be easier. Also plastic might be a better option than metal on a water plane. Don Fry
Frank, I love you. If you want to get to the battery quickly, I reckon you are wasting time, from taking steps to rectify the problem, as in fast steps away.
J D 8
Get the position of the catch correct they work well, you want it so you feel hear the pin click when pressed in. When turning 1/4 turn to release you need something to grab to pull hatch out.
John Rickett 102
Frank, Have you tried neodym magnets. Since discovering them (all shapes and strengths) I wouldn't use anything else now...........and they are invisible.

Frank Skilbeck
Good suggestion, and I have a couple of damaged motors I could liberate some batteries from. Here's the model and remains of the original hatch.
RottenRow
The SLEC hatch catch won't work for your hatch. The fixed plate needs to be screwed to a vertical former, which you don't have in the battery opening as that is where the battery goes. Also the SLEC catch is too big.. it's about 2" depth from the outer surface of the hatch to the bottom of the fixed plate. I've had a few of these 'in stock' for many years and have yet to find a use for one. Brian. 1
Paul De Tourtoulon
You can always use an elastic on the inside.
