Bob Cotsford
FAI! Nice one Martyn. Now if only my flying abilities matched my models I'd be laughing. Top hats still defeat me and look more like I'm having a seizure.
Tony Bennett
Yes please. need to build one now. will electric power be alowed though.
kc
Count me in.........Real Aeromodelling where you build your own model and fly it! But I am just a fly for fun pilot not a competition pilot. Concours d' elegance contest maybe.
Martyn K
I definitely fall into the club flyer category - I am trying to get my 'B' next year and loops and rolls and occassionally an '8' is my limit. However, I just love those models and something like this will help me (and I suspect others) to improve their skill level. Persobally, I don't have a problem with electric as an alternative to 'proper' fuel , the most important thing is to get people flying. John Hickson
Is this type of pattern flying limited to certain model types then?
Bob Cotsford
I think it's more centered around the models than the routine John, just an excuse to reminisce about and fly the models of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Bob Cotsford
at least that's how I see it - others may have different views. It helps that the flying style was smoooth and the models quite sturdy making them good sunday hacks.
Phil Green
I'm very interested, it suits me right down to the ground, retro models with retro gear. Regarding the name, the real UKCAA will probably sort it by claiming the domain, I've seen that happen. Cheers Phil
Bill Michie
Getting there..................... Model in my possession (ARTF but hey, it fits the bill AND the spirit of FLYING these classics!) Period engine in storage............ (new in 1985, probably first avail early eighties). Great idea, I look forward to "moving back in time" as a friend pointed out recently! Personally, I think the "ERA" ie pre-turnaround/ pre 1986, is spot-on. Turnaround brought huge developments and changes in design, performance and power requirements, and the original smooth-flying classics began to get lost in the development race. Power-wise, my (personal) opinion, is: ideally .61 2-stroke, OR same size case (ie modern .90-in-a-60-case) engines, for simplicity and cost. Leccy and 4-strokes shouldn't be banned outright as we're trying to get participation after all, but will be in the significant minority, and we're not really into a formalised competition environment. Bob Cotsford
I've just (pre-)ordered an Evolution 10cc petrol motor, that should punt out about the same as a Merco 60 or similar baffled engine from the early propo days, I'm thinking it should be just the job for an older design. I also have a Mustfire kit from Frog - perfect!
jeff2wings
Merco did do a petrol 61 , hard to find though ,still my glow one flys the mustfire in fine style ! must build some thing for one of these to go in
Bob Cotsford
Jeff, did you use the plan design for the hidden aileron linkage and wire pin hinges? I did PM you to ask but maybe PMs are something else not to be trusted on this site!
jeff2wings
Hi Bob , sorry did not see the pm ,I can have a look for the rcm&e kit review and the dims for the rudder mod if you like and I can also compare the dihedral with mine as it was also made from an original Frog kit ( but not by me )
jeff2wings
Frog mustfire kit review in RCM&E May 1967 and the tail mod info is in Chris Olsens' ' pilots' patter ' in the RCM&E May 1968
