Greybeard
The BBC has more. I think Jeremy Vine should investigate.
Hogster
That would be a great shame The discovery of these spitfires is one of the most anticipated events of the year as far as I`m concerned. Whatever happend to the crate they said they discovered last week?
cymaz
J.v. should investigate the inside of a crocodile

bouncebounce crunch
I still cannot believe this story. there must be records or at least one servicemans family that would have been told.
Ian Jones
It's noticeable at this time that there are no direct quotes from any archaeologists in that article. It's W.I.P. so we'll see.
Tim Campling
That really would be shame. I like the pic of the spitfire at the bottom pointing out the elliptical wing, oops. Tom Sharp
You never know what will be dug up next from the ground. A man in Australia armed with a metal detector has just found a gold nugget worth £200.000 on a beach where there was a Gold Rush in the 19th Century. Greybeard
Jeremy saya that they are looking in the wrong place. Apparently it reminds him of an old song.

Wingman
Looks like this is busted - Telegraph Article - would have been nice but I suppse it was too much to hope for
Hogster
According to Aeroplane magazine, because the backers wanted to make things look good for the TV documentary they have not been digging in the right place. The experts believe the best place to dig is, iirc, a few hundreds yard away. So I think there is some more twist and turns in this saga yet. kevin b
Posted by Chris P. Bacon on 16/02/2013 18:57:48: Bring in Tony Robinson and Time Team! Yeah ! They would only take 2 days (or 3 if it's a bank holiday special edition). Wonder who they would pull in to build the model ? Didn't they already dig one up in France, or was that the other lot ? Bob Cotsford
Yes but the Time Team would uncover two nails and a screw, draw a picture of a Spitfire and call it a wrap

John 'JB' Seal
They still haven't established what's in that crate they did discover have they? And I can't see them getting permission to go out there and dig random holes in Burma without some fairly solid proof the Spitfires exist. 17 years of research and eyewitness accounts would suggest that David Cundall and his team know exactly where they are! Maybe the scrap metal collectors got there first! I really hope they find them, these sorts of rumours of existence don't just appear from nowhere; there must be some truth in them surely?
