Pete B
Seems as if Barkston will be available again this year from this BMFA News release but without the hangar: We are pleased to confirm that we have been successful in obtaining permission for the 2015 Power 'Nationals' to take place at RAF Barkston Heath over the August Bank Holiday weekend after some months of 'challenging' and 'protracted' negotiations with the RAF. Sadly, we were unable to secure the use of RAF Cranwell for the Silent Flight Nationals this year and as such the Silent Flight Technical Committee are seeking an alternative venue. With the delay in securing permission for the use of RAF Barkston Heath, we are some months behind where we would normally be at this point in the year in terms of arrangements and it is likely that there will be some changes required. Whilst it is too early to confirm what these may be, we can already confirm that the hangar will not be available for us to house the bar and indoor flying this year. Chris Bott - Moderator
That's not good news Pete. It always warmed my heart to see so many kids running round flying indoor chuck gliders and rubber powered models in the hangar at the Nats. There must have been many seeds sown there about what these kids want to do when they grow up. Let's hope it can be replaced, at least in part, with a marquee or two. Paul Marsh
That's a shame. I reckon without the hanger, some people won't go at all, as the hanger is the place to be in the evening. Hopefully, I can still run the evening 2.4 line, if that is still permitted and not under the "changes". That will be something. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Yes, I agree. I am pleased to see the Nats still at Barkston. But the loss of the hangar is a major blow. It was the social hub of the whole event. It will leave a big hole. A rather sad.... BEB
