john stones 1 - Moderator
We're off then...who you fancy ? Froome, Niballi, Quintana, where's it gonna be won/lost mountains or time trials ? how much will Froome miss Richy ? John
Phil 9
Well they will all find it harder going without EPO and blood transfusions
Pete B
Froomy had a very good Dauphine and had the jump on Contador who was looking a bit vulnerable - or was he saving it? Sky team also looked strong in the Dauphine so should provide support for Froomy. Nibali, Quintana - can never write them off. The mountain stages will decide it. I don't think Cav will risk too much with the Olympics coming up so not so much bouncing in the armchair this year... I'll go for Froomy again, with Sagan in green - but who knows????? Darrell Woodward
Am not sure about the OA GC - usual suspects though with teams balanced towards the cols given that the race IS a hilly this year (inc the TT's) Cav will quit in week 2 to save himself for the Olympics, Sagan in Green, Yellow wearer might well have the Polka as a bonus in Paris. Owdlad
As a rule of thumb the winner of Dauphine goes on to win the tour..........Froome. But I will stick by my prediction at the end of last years tour........Naro Quintana to win in 2016
Geoff S
Just watching the first stage and slightly annoyed at the good weather they're enjoying. We've just got back from a 3 week trip with the camper van and tandem and the weather was similar to that we've been 'enjoying' over here but with less wind. Normandy isn't flat btw. We were reduced to the little ring and big sprocket a couple of times for short stretches. The hills are more like the UK - short and steep rather than long, steady but relentless. Forecast? Obviously Quintana (who would have won last year had he not lost time in the first week cross winds) is a favourite and Moviestar has a strong mountain team. Then it's Nibbles (if he's riding? after winning the Gyro he'll be short of energy like Alberto was last year). Alberto will be a real contender after missing the Gyro but my heart says Froome or, even better, Geraint Thomas. Looking forward to it when we get to the real mountains. Oops! Contador has just fallen and is off the back as the cross winds cause a split. Geoff
Don Fry
Posted by Phil 9 on 02/07/2016 11:58:48: Well they will all find it harder going without EPO and blood transfusions They are so passé. Mind, it must be improving, as the gardarmerie haven't bashed down any hotel doors on their drug warrants, yet.

Ernie
Well Guys, I reckon the star is going to be the red haired lady doctor in the white cabriolet.. Alberto was obviously very taken with her as she tended to his bruises ernie
Owdlad
We're now up to stage 7.......... 4 stage wins by riders under the auspicies of English flag The English football super stars aught to hang their heads in shame for embarrassing their nation instead of partying the night away
Geoff S
Posted by Owdlad on 08/07/2016 18:36:30: We're now up to stage 7.......... 4 stage wins by riders under the auspicies of English flag The English football super stars aught to hang their heads in shame for embarrassing their nation instead of partying the night away Well 3 of them were by a Manxman and one by an Englishman but all 3 were won under the auspices of the Union Flag. Not seen an English flag displayed on the results sheet. I thought it was only Americans who got confused about the difference between British and English (or Welsh, Scottish or N Irish for that matter). Never the less it was terrific ride by Steve Cummings today. We rode up that side of the Aspin about 3 years ago and it's not really hard (if you're not racing) but certainly harder than the climb from St Marie de Campan. The real farce was the collapse of the inflated so-called Flame Rouge which indicates 1km to go. Though it seems to have caused Adam Yates to crash and injure his face - hopefully not seriously. The real test comes tomorrow when the riders tackle the Tourmalet and the Peyresourde and a couple of lesser climbs. Looking forward to some fireworks from Froome and Quintana. Perhaps another 'English' (or Kenyan?) win? In happier times when we were much younger we rode all 3 of tomorrow's climbs with camping gear, though not all on the same day! I love the Pyrenees. Owdlad
Generally the English wave the Union Flag the Scots and Welsh wave their own flag

Don Fry
As an Englishman I accept that a Manxman is British til he looses. It's an Imperial hangover.

extra slim
Amazing day, Cummings was unbelievable, Impey!..what ?, and the race leader showing how to respect the jersey. It is all going to kick off tomorrow!, Movistar with their two front men seem on it...froome will need Thomas to be on top form, and Aru is worryingly quiet!... Can't wait

Pete B
Hi Ernie, family out here at present so couldn't get across to see a stage this year. Just a tad envious.... When's a team going to take Sky on, then? Not surprised Froomy denied Majka those mountain points the other day - if they're not going to put the work in, they shouldn't expect freebies!
